Actor Rob Schneider<\/a>\u00a0recently shared that he found himself in a confrontation due to his support for President Donald Trump with fellow actor Robert de Niro<\/a> and instead of getting into a political debate,\u00a0he tried to diffuse the tension.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Newsweek<\/em> reached out to Schneider and de Niro via email for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.<\/p>\n

Schneider and de Niro were seated near each other during Saturday Night Live<\/a>‘s\u00a0<\/em>50th anniversary special earlier this year. Schneider told The Epoch Times in an interview that he saw de Niro two rows ahead of him and didn\u2019t\u00a0want to ruin his evening because of his support for Trump. He also\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0want de Niro to ruin the event for\u00a0him,\u00a0so he hoped the two would just avoid politics all together.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, that avoidance\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0last\u00a0forever\u00a0and when Schneider and de Niro found themselves close together in a cramped area at the end of the night, the conversation quickly turned political.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI bump into\u00a0him,\u00a0and he turns around and has that\u00a0particular expression\u00a0that I think everyone\u00a0knows [and says] \u2018How could you support that schmuck?\u2019\u201d Schneider said de Niro asked him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Schneider told The Epoch Times that de Niro was about to \u201creally go at me.\u201d\u00a0However,\u00a0Schneider said you can \u201cchoose to not have conflict,\u201d and instead of getting into a political debate, he just said, \u201cI love you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The actor said the response diffused the situation and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a moment that Schneider considers him being at his \u201cbest.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s what\u00a0needed\u00a0to happen,\u201d he said. \u201cThe cancel culture,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0not going to win. And when I say \u2018we,\u2019 I mean we as a society.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before Trump ran for president, he and Schneider were in\u00a0Home Alone 2\u00a0<\/em>together. Schneider played Cedric, a bellman at the Plaza Hotel and Trump made a cameo in the film.\u00a0Schneider formally left the Democratic Party in 2013, a few years before Trump\u2019s run for office. He voted for Trump in the 2016 election and endorsed him in the 2024 campaign after Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. suspended his campaign.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Schneider has said\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0been\u00a0somewhat blacklisted\u00a0in Hollywood because of his political opinions and told\u00a0The Daily Mail<\/em>\u00a0last year that\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0probably lost\u00a0friends over politics.<\/p>\n

In his interview with The Epoch Times, Schneider said battling over politics\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0move the country forward and eventually people will have to find some \u201ccommon ground.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
