Video: Preschoolers play in snow at Four Arts Winter Wonderland event<\/p>\n Video: Preschoolers play in snow at Four Arts Winter Wonderland event<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/media-video><\/div>\n <\/story-highlights> Palm Beach residents Karen and Paul Levy have announced, for the second time this year,\u00a0a challenge grant of $250,000\u00a0in support of the Palm Beach Symphony\u2019s efforts to support music education in underserved county\u00a0schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n Announced during the symphony\u2019s 9th<\/sup>\u00a0annual Holly Jolly Symphony Fete at the Kravis Center of the performing arts, the challenge grant is the second time this year the couple has vied to match up to $250,000 in donations, after the philanthropist couple\u2019s first\u00a0\u00a0$250,000 challenge grant in April.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0\u201cOur first challenge was a successful\u00a0match,\u00a0and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0hoping the community will come together and repeat that.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0delighted to share what we have with young children here in Palm Beach County,\u201d Paul Levy said in a statement. \u201cPassion begins with exposure, so without exposure to music, students cannot develop a passion for it. The next step of course is providing access to instruments to\u00a0determine\u00a0what\u00a0they\u2019d\u00a0like to learn to play. Music provides a sense of discipline, mastery, focus and practice that are lifelong skills that go well beyond learning music, positioning them to be more productive children,\u00a0students\u00a0and adults.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The couple\u2019s first challenge grant culminated in $500,000 raised to support the symphony\u2019s artists-in-residence, 12 instrumental music program and over 330 coaching appointments at nine Palm Beach County Title 1 schools during the 2025-2026 schools year, the symphony said in a release.\u00a0<\/p>\n Karen Levy, who served on The Julliard School board when she lived in New York City, began playing piano when she was 6 years old, she said in a statement. \u201cMusic adds such a wonderful dimension to life. Capturing these children when\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0young creates a passion that will last forever,\u201d\u00a0she said.<\/p>\n During the Kravis center\u00a0event, the symphony also announced another\u00a0major milestone, when\u00a0it\u00a0donated\u00a0its thousandth\u00a0instrument\u00a0as part of its effort to support local Title I schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n Overall,\u00a031 instruments, 27 of which were brand new, were given to\u00a0students\u00a0and teachers from\u00a0Woodlands Middle School, The Conservatory School\u00a0@\u00a0North Palm\u00a0Beach\u00a0and Plumosa School of the\u00a0Arts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cMusic education for young students is so important because it gives them the tools to be successful. The tools are so much more than the instruments that\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0putting into their hands,\u201d David McClymont, CEO of Palm Beach Symphony, said in a release. \u201cMusic teaches confidence, how to work with a team, camaraderie,\u00a0discipline\u00a0and dedication. These are life skills they can apply in various scenarios for the rest of their lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The gifts are\u00a0the latest in the symphony\u2019s\u00a0instrument donation program.
