Though they have passed, their work and spirits endure.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Peter Greene<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>1965-December 12, 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Born and raised in Montclair. Greene attended Montclair High School but dropped out before graduating, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0338886\/bio\/?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according to his IMDB biography<\/a>, and ran away from home as a teenager, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/peter-greene\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">he revealed in a 1996 magazine interview<\/a>. He struggled with homelessness and drug addiction before pursuing acting and became best known for his villainous roles in the films Pulp Fiction and The Mask. Greene was slated to begin production on an indie thriller this January, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/12\/us-news\/peter-greene-pulp-fiction-and-the-mask-actor-found-dead-at-60-inside-his-nyc-apartment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">the celebrity.land reported<\/a>. The Bronx native had been living in Sussex County and died from injuries sustained in a fall, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/sussex-county\/2025\/11\/founding-kiss-guitarist-living-in-nj-died-from-injury-due-to-a-fall-autopsy-shows.html?outputType=amp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">NJ.com reported<\/a>. Frehley was a \u201cconsummate showman\u201d who influenced \u201ceveryone from Metallica to Lady Gaga,\u201d wrote Gavin Edwards in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/16\/arts\/music\/ace-frehley-dead.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">the New York Times obituary<\/a>. Palmieri\u2019s decades-long career was \u201cmarked by his groundbreaking fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and jazz harmonies,\u201d wrote Manahil Ahmad <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2025\/08\/07\/eddie-palmieri-of-hackensack-nj-dies-at-age-88-grammy-awards-jazz\/85555800007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">in an obituary for NorthJersey.com<\/a>. \u201cHis orchestra La Perfecta, formed in the early 1960s, set a new standard for Latin music\u2026.showcasing his explosive piano style\u2014a blend of precision, power and improvisational grit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Palmieri performed at the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/njmonthly.com\/articles\/arts-entertainment\/montclairs-queen-of-jazz-how-melissa-walker-built-a-musical-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Montclair Jazz Festival<\/a> in 2019. Earlier this month, on what would have been his 89th birthday, the festival posted a tribute on their Instagram account. \u201cWe are so thankful to Eddie for his music and his friendship!\u201d it concluded. \u201cLong may his legacy continue!\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Malcolm-Jamal Warner<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>1970-July 20, 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Jersey City-born actor, beloved for his role as Theo Huxtable on NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, died in an accidental drowning off the coast of Costa Rica, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/malcolm-jamal-warner-former-cosby-show-star-dead\/story?id=123932998\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">ABC News reported<\/a>. He was 54. Warner played Theo from 1984 to 1992, and was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series in 1986. She was\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/njmonthly.com\/articles\/just-for-the-web\/nj-hall-fame-announces-2016-inductees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame\u2019s Class of 2016<\/a> at a 2017 ceremony held at Asbury Park\u2019s Convention Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Just two months before her death, Francis had responded to news that her deep cut \u201cPretty Little Baby\u201d had <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/music\/Pretty-Little-Baby-7146370280443627521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">gone viral on TikTok<\/a>, six decades after its original release. \u201cMy thanks to TikTok and its members for the wonderful, and oh so unexpected, reception given to my 1961 recording,\u201d she <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ConnieFrancisOfficial\/posts\/pfbid02jqUKkJdTpPLWQkAhyT1NH5JHhrXbzK6NYV2T1wczv1MHMgRC5twEZ6c7Z6zmbf5al?ref=embed_post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">wrote in a Facebook post<\/a>. Her publicist and record-label president, Rob Roberts, had informed her of her \u201cviral hit\u201d\u2014a term she didn\u2019t understand. \u201cClearly out of touch with present day music statistics terminology, my initial response was to ask: \u2018What\u2019s that?\u2019\u201d she continued. \u201cThank you everyone!\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lenny Welch<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>1938-April 8, 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Though born in New York City, the pop singer was raised in Asbury Park, where he was shaped by the vibrant Black music scene on the city\u2019s West Side. He attended Asbury Park High School and joined a local vocal group called the Mar-Keys, which, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.app.com\/story\/entertainment\/music\/2025\/04\/09\/lenny-welch-mr-asbury-park-dead-obiturary\/83013042007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according to the Asbury Park Press<\/a>, opened for Little Richard at city\u2019s Savoy Theatre in the 1950s. He later became best known for his cover of \u201cSince I Fell for You,\u201d which hit number 4 on the Billboard chart in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>During a 2011 panel about the history of race and music, Bruce Springsteen referred to Welch as \u201cMr. Asbury Park,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/springsteen\/2011\/04\/bruce_springsteen_joins_panel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">according to NJ.com<\/a>. Later that year, Welch returned to his hometown to perform at the Soul of Asbury Park concert held at the Paramount Theatre. In 2012, he was inducted into Asbury Park High School\u2019s Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. A few years before his death, in 2021, Welch told the Asbury Park Press that he thought about the city \u201cevery day\u201d and hoped to return \u201cbefore I leave this earth.\u201d He said he wanted to \u201cwalk around, go up Springwood Avenue because that\u2019s where I grew up\u2026.just walk up the street, look around, visit relatives\u2019 gravesites [\u2026].\u201d Welch died in
