KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Plaza\u2019s<\/a> new owners, Gillon Property Group, eyes taking control of more of the Kansas City shopping district.<\/p>\n

The owners proposed taking control of area sidewalks during a city plan commission meeting Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The proposal would transfer ownership and public right of way from the city to the Plaza<\/a> for specific walkways. Sidewalks highlighted in yellow on the map below are the ones that would be vacated under the plan.<\/p>\n

The proposal includes walkways along Nichols and 47th Street. The city would retain control of Ward Parkway. <\/p>\n

Plaza owners said they want ownership of the sidewalks to easily upgrade spaces and elevate security.<\/p>\n

If the Plaza\u2019s owners<\/a> were in control of the sidewalks, they would not have to go through the city when making changes. They would also enforce any rules or restrictions on the walkways.<\/p>\n

Commissioners said they want to outline specific conditions before anything passes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are interested in learning is access open 24\/7 for all people to enter and walk around the Country Club Plaza,\u201d said Tyler Enders, vice chair of the City Planning Commission. \u201cThe applicant pretty much said of course we want people to be in this area, so we just need to define what that looks like, what that feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n

The proposal has not passed through the planning commission. Commissioners want to see about 10 conditions in writing first. <\/p>\n

The matter will be revisited Wednesday, January 7.<\/p>\n
