Whitlock earned recognition for portraying State Sen. R. Clayton \u201cClay\u201d Davis, a corrupt politician in the critically acclaimed HBO drama \u201cThe Wire.\u201d He appeared across all five seasons of the series.<\/p>\n
Director Spike Lee, who worked with Whitlock on multiple projects, mourned the actor on social media, writing: \u201cToday I Learned Of The Passing Of My Dear Beloved Brother ISIAH WHITLOCK. Whitlock maintained an active career spanning decades. His first notable television appearance came in 1987 with a role on \u201cCagney & Lacey.\u201d Most recently, he appeared in the Netflix series \u201cThe Residence,\u201d which premiered in March 2025.
