While there won\u2019t be a \u201cCountdown Chicago\u201d this year, one tradition from the long-running WLS-Channel 7 special lives on.<\/p>\n

Since 2018, news anchor Terrell Brown and meteorologist Cheryl Scott have been dancing in the new year<\/u><\/a> with an elaborate choreographed routine shot at one or more Chicago landmarks. A slick video of this year\u2019s footwork is set to be unveiled tonight, but this year, instead of unspooling during the \u201cCountdown\u201d special, it will debut during an earlier-than-usual local newscast from 9 to 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The change is part of an expansion of ABC\u2019s long-running national special \u201cDick Clark\u2019s New Year\u2019s Rockin\u2019 Eve,\u201d consistently the top-rated TV countdown. In the past, after the East Coast-focused show covered the ball drop at New York\u2019s Times Square, WLS-Channel 7 would cut in and bring local viewers some Central Time merrymaking on the custom-made \u201cCountdown Chicago.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chance the Rapper to host live segment around midnight from Chicago<\/h3>\n

This year, for the first time, \u201cRockin\u2019 Eve\u201d is taking over the Midwest coverage<\/u><\/a> and bringing the Central Time countdown to viewers coast to coast. That means no \u201cCountdown Chicago\u201d \u2014 and no live shots of partiers whooping it up at local hotel ballrooms or giddy ABC7 news anchors moonlighting as hype men (and women).<\/p>\n

Instead, Chance the Rapper will host a live national segment <\/u><\/a>around midnight local time from Chicago Riverwalk at West Wacker Drive and North Franklin Street, spitting bars as a live audience shivers.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the night, I\u2019m going to be performing the song called \u2018No More Old Men.\u2019 I truly believe it\u2019s probably the most important song that I\u2019ve written,\u201d Chance said in an interview posted by ABC7.<\/u><\/a> \u201cI think it encapsulates childhood in a way that I haven\u2019t really been able to get across and also manhood in a way that I don\u2019t think is expressed a lot in music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018New Year\u2019s Rockin\u2019 Eve\u2019 lineup features Diana Ross, Chappell Roan<\/h3>\n

Chance will be part of a \u201cRockin\u2019 Eve\u201d lineup ranging from up-and-comers Jessie Murph and Tucker Wetmore to legends Mariah Carey and Diana Ross.<\/p>\n

Ryan Seacrest and Rita Ora host the extravaganza from Times Square, with NFL star Rob Gronkowski and \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d co-host Julianne Hough fronting segments from Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

  • Rappers 50 Cent, BigXthaPlug, Busta Rhymes, T.I. & Wyclef Jean and Pitbull.<\/li>\n
  • R&B singers 6lack and Ciara. <\/li>\n
  • Country artists Filmore, Jordan Davis, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Russell Dickerson and Tucker Wetmore.<\/li>\n
  • Social media star Jessie Murph.<\/li>\n
  • EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, the singing voices of \u201cHUNTR\/X\u201d from \u201cKPop Demon Hunters.\u201d<\/li>\n
  • International pop acts LE SSERAFIM and Zara Larsson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Most of the performance segments were taped in advance. \u201cDick Clark\u2019s New Year\u2019s Rockin\u2019 Eve with Ryan Seacrest\u201d begins at 7 p.m. on WLS-Channel 7 and streams starting Thursday on Hulu.<\/p>\n
