Actor Mel Gibson<\/a> and director Rosalind Ross have split after nine years of dating. <\/p>\n

In a joint statement to People<\/a> on Dec. 30, 2025, the former couple, who share 8-year-old son Lars, revealed they quietly parted ways in 2024. \u201cAlthough it\u2019s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,\u201d they told the outlet.<\/p>\n

The pair met in 2014 through mutual friends and soon began dating. In 2017, they welcomed Lars.<\/p>\n

Their separation announcement came nearly a year after the couple\u2019s Malibu home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires<\/a>. Ross and Lars evacuated the property while Gibson was recording an episode of \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

Gibson told NewsNation<\/a> in January 2025 that although their home was \u201cperfectly burned,\u201d the family was safe.<\/p>\n

The couple\u2019s 34-year age difference drew attention throughout their relationship. <\/p>\n

Gibson addressed the scrutiny in a 2016 interview with The Mirror<\/a>. \u201cRegarding age and relationships, it\u2019s just a number,\u201d he said. \u201cWe dig each other. She is an adult and we dig each other. It might cause a problem and one has a trepidation about these things, but it\u2019s working out great. She is a really special person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gibson \u2014 best known for movies like \u201cBraveheart,\u201d \u201cMad Max,\u201d and \u201cThe Passion of the Christ\u201d \u2014 has eight other children from previous relationships with ex-wife Robyn Moore and ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.<\/p>\n

Ross, a former champion equestrian vaulter best known for writing and directing the 2022 film \u201cFather Stu,\u201d which Gibson starred in, is only a mother to Lars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
