GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Bo Diddley Plaza rang in the New Year in style with great music from local artists. <\/p>\n
The 30 degree temperatures didn\u2019t stop hundreds of people in Gainesville from showing up to have a great time.<\/p>\n
Lead singer of local band, The Savants, Justin McKenzie, said this year he\u2019s just focusing on being a better person. He said it\u2019s easy to say you want to workout more, or to say you\u2019re going to stop smoking or to vaping, but said this year he wants to be the best version of himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI always have the same one every year to be a better person,\u201d said McKenzie. \u201cI know that\u2019s general and vague, but I already stopped smoking cigarettes, I\u2019m drinking less, I\u2019m working out. So just be a better person I think everyone should feel that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
All through the night, and past midnight, music filled Bo Diddley plaza with everything from soul classics to original music from local artists to literally ring in the new year.<\/p>\n
The Savant\u2019s played right before the turn of the year, and after leaving the people at Bo Diddley plaza were cheering and clamoring for more. <\/p>\n
While you couldn\u2019t see any fireworks from the plaza, you really didn\u2019t need them with all the great music.<\/p>\n
