Today <\/i>cohost Sheinelle Jones<\/strong> <\/a>is mourning the death<\/a> of her 96-year-old grandma, Josephine Vonceal Pace Brown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with the heaviest heart that I announce the sudden passing of my grandmother,\u201d Jones, 47, wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Saturday, January 3. \u201cShe passed early in the morning on New Year\u2019s Eve at the age of 96. Anyone who knows me, knows that \u2018Grandmama,\u2019 Josephine Vonceal Pace Brown, was my world.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201c[She was] my best buddy, my confidante and my unapologetic cheerleader. In time, I\u2019ll share the stories of how her advocacy changed the trajectory of my education, and how she \u2018lit up\u2019 when I told her in 5th grade that I wanted to be a news reporter. Her standard of excellence was extremely high \u2014 but I was fueled by her belief in me and constant affirmation when she saw me put in the work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones further mused about why her relationship with Brown was \u201cextra special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe hosts of Today have offered some insight into how Sheinelle Jones has been coping with the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh. On May 23, Savannah Guthrie announced on the NBC morning show that Ojeh died at age 45 after a private battle with the brain cancer glioblastoma. \u201cThere are no words for the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cShe was so attentive, beyond the backdrop of a highly successful life of her own,\u201d the TV reporter recalled. \u201cLong before I was born, she was the first Black woman elected to the board of education \u2026 she was notoriously *tough* and everyone knew it. Her mission \u2014 to make education equitable for all children. She was also a classically trained pianist, and was the director of the music ministry at my church for as long as I can remember.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones concluded, \u201cLife is so precious, and I can\u2019t help but to be changed by the last year and a half. Heaven has gained a new choir director, and our family \u2014 a new angel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just seven months before Brown\u2019s death, Jones lost her husband, Uche Ojeh<\/strong>,<\/a> in May 2025 after a battle with brain cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our dear friend and Today<\/i> cohost Sheinelle Jones has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,\u201d Savannah Guthrie<\/strong> announced during a May 2025 broadcast<\/a>. \u201cThere are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Jones, Ojeh is survived by the couple\u2019s three kids: son Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, both 12.<\/p>\n

Jones didn\u2019t initially publicly disclose Ojeh\u2019s diagnosis but took a hiatus from Today <\/i>while he underwent treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that I was strong, but I didn\u2019t want to be so strong that I missed this blessing right in front of me [and] that I missed the fight,\u201d Jones said during her return to Today <\/i><\/a>in September 2025. \u201c[I didn\u2019t want to miss] looking in his eyes \u2018cause I was his oxygen sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n
