THE RUNDOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n Jennifer Lawrence is up for a Golden Globe next Sunday, but for this evening\u2019s Critics Choice Awards, the Die My Love star was absent from the red carpet. Neither Lawrence nor Die My Love <\/strong>has any nominations, giving the star no pressing reason to attend the Santa Monica, California ceremony. Lawrence, who has a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture \u2013 Drama, recently sat down with Leonardo DiCaprio for Variety<\/a>\u2019s Actors on Actors<\/a>. DiCaprio asked her what drew her to the project, in which Lawrence plays a new mother struggling with postpartum depression.<\/p>\n The recommendation came from a legend in the industry, Lawrence told DiCaprio: \u201cMartin Scorsese had read the book in his book club and he was like, \u2018You should make this into a movie and star in it.\u2019 And then when I was reading it, I really couldn\u2019t understand how it would be a movie. I felt like the author, Ariana Harwicz, was able to describe the indescribable grave depression of an identity crisis, but really poetically being lost in a forest and these visuals and metaphors. I couldn\u2019t crack how to make it a movie, and I didn\u2019t want to go back to Marty and be like, \u2018I don\u2019t get it, try someone else.\u2019 I think I realized that it\u2019s poetry, it\u2019s not a literal story. Then it clicked that Lynne Ramsey would be the only [director for this]. I think she\u2019s a poet. <\/p>\n She added, \u201cLynne changed a lot. She made the lead couple be new to town, which they\u2019re not in the book. That adds a huge element to my character\u2019s depression. She\u2019s pacing like a tiger in a cage, and that added a lot more of the isolation that I think a lot of new parents have.
