{"id":2222338,"date":"2026-01-05T03:02:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T03:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2222338"},"modified":"2026-01-05T03:02:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T03:02:38","slug":"black-sabbaths-geezer-butler-says-using-ai-has-really-helped-his-new-solo-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/black-sabbaths-geezer-butler-says-using-ai-has-really-helped-his-new-solo-album\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Sabbath&#8217;s Geezer Butler Says Using AI Has &#8216;Really Helped&#8217; His New Solo Album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s really helped me,&#8221; Butler explained. &#8220;A lot of people think it&#8217;s cheating.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/p>\n<p><span>Black Sabbath&#8217;s Geezer Butler, Ozzy Osbourne, and Tony Iommi<\/span><span>(Credit: Supplied)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>While his status as one of metal\u2019s pioneering musicians might lead some to think he\u2019s against the concept, but <strong>Black Sabbath\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>Geezer Butler<\/strong> has admitted that AI has become a useful tool with his latest focuses.<\/p>\n<p>Currently recording his forthcoming solo album, Butler sat down for an interview at the Steel City Con in Philadelphia early last month where he discussed his formative days in the world of music, his journey with Black Sabbath, and his current musical plans.<\/p>\n<p>As <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/blabbermouth.net\/news\/geezer-butler-is-using-an-a-i-singer-during-songwriting-process-for-his-upcoming-solo-album-its-really-helped-me-he-says\"><em>Blabbermouth<\/em><\/a> noted, Butler discussed the material he\u2019s using for his new album, explaining that while some of it goes back a while, parts of it also see him embracing new technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve got tons of stuff,\u201d he admitted. \u201cSince we finished the last Sabbath show, I&#8217;ve just been going through all the stuff that I&#8217;ve written since the &#8217;80s onwards and updating everything. And what held me back before, I didn&#8217;t have a singer when I&#8217;m at home, but AI came along. <\/p>\n<div id=\"\" class=\"newsletter-signup \">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p>Don&#8217;t miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cSo all my songs now, I&#8217;ve updated them all and I&#8217;m using an AI singer to bring all the lyrics out. So now I can take it to singers that I&#8217;m gonna be working with and go, &#8216;This is what I want on the album,&#8217; so they&#8217;ve got a better idea. Before I was just, like, playing them a bass riff or something, going, &#8216;Can you sing to this?&#8217; And they&#8217;d be going, &#8216;Yeah.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it&#8217;s so much better now, &#8217;cause you can sit in your studio and do everything on AI and then take it to proper musicians and let them take over,\u201d he added. \u201cIt&#8217;s really helped me. A lot of people think it&#8217;s cheating.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Geezer Butler\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qjnMGGiaOhQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>At the same time that Butler took part in this conversation, <strong>Harvey Mason Jr.<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0the boss of <strong>The Recording Academy<\/strong> and the <strong>Grammys<\/strong> \u2013 took part in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/themusic.com.au\/industry\/grammys-boss-says-ai-usage-isnt-a-dealbreaker-when-it-comes-to-award-nominations\/Ts_sQENCRUQ\/05-12-25\">his own interview<\/a> in which he explained how he has seen AI be used by the wider musical community, with Butler\u2019s comments tracking with Mason\u2019s own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt runs the gamut of people texting lyrics or ideas or how they feel when they wake up and generating an entire track, lyrics and melody from it,\u201d Mason said of the technology\u2019s use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the far end of the spectrum. The other side of the spectrum is somebody who has just produced an entire song, but they can\u2019t figure out the bridge section, or they can\u2019t figure out one line, or they can\u2019t figure out a melody to finish the chorus, and they ask one of the platforms to create that as a way to supplement what they\u2019ve already done. That\u2019s the other end of the spectrum. Everything in between is what I\u2019m seeing in the studio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve seen people having one of the platforms writing lyrics after they\u2019ve already played all the chords, or taking lyrics that have been generated and building songs around that, or having AI vocals on a song that you wrote because you can\u2019t sing,\u201d he continues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know one person who writes on acoustic guitar and whistles the melodies and puts that into one of the models, and the model spits out songs. I know another person who\u2019s a poet and they put that into the model, and it spits out a fully produced demo. It\u2019s all over the map.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the usage of AI is indeed \u201call over the map currently,\u201d it remains to be seen how Butler\u2019s finished product will sound. However, it undoubtedly pales in comparison to how Black Sabbath used to create.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Sabbath \u2014 Sabbath, we\u2019d sit down in a room together and just jam and jam and jam until somebody came up with something that we could work with,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we had a good riff to write to, we\u2019d finish the music part of it. <strong>Ozzy<\/strong> [<strong>Osbourne<\/strong>] would sing his vocal line, then I\u2019d write the lyrics. So it mainly came from jamming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Black Sabbath made their final live appearance last year as part of the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/themusic.com.au\/news\/black-sabbath-announce-final-show-featuring-special-guests-metallica-slayer-more\/KxuRPz4hICM\/06-02-25\">Back To The Beginning<\/a> concert on July 5th.
