\u201cSeparating the art from the artist\u201d is one enduring debate that I don\u2019t think will ever get dropped, or should ever get dropped, because it\u2019s such an interesting interrogation of the morals around creating and engaging with art. But what I\u2019ve been thinking about lately is not the art and the artist, but the artist and the side hustle. I\u2019m finding it increasingly hard to separate the two.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago I mentioned that the Your Friends & Neighbors<\/em> voice over sounds like a car commercial. And that\u2019s mild \u2013 what about all of the crypto ads and EFTs? Now there\u2019s those odd gaming ads that pop up and are so weird. I admit my first instinct when I saw Ryan Reynolds for Tim Hortons was an immediate eyeroll. I know he\u2019s a marketing genius hustler but this, to me, is the Tina Fey Rule. When someone crosses a line, you know when you see it. And that line is different for everyone.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n You can be sure that the Met Gala is due for at least one bit of drama (the Solange elevator slap turned 10 this year<\/a>!) and right now, it\u2019s video of Doechii leaving her hotel with her assistants. A lot of people are taking umbrage with the way she spoke to her staff. (Side note: isn\u2019t it crazy how poor TikTok video quality is? It\u2019s like we\u2019ve gone back to using flip phones! Naomi, who has been to multiple Met Galas, was DEFINITELY invited.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Sun published and then removed a story that she was not invited<\/a>. They disappeared it. And the thing is, she has actually skipped the Met Gala in previous years so this statement had the Streisand Effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I want the meeting minutes for the marketing strategy for this book. Who is the target audience? Who is buying it? Can you imagine what the ghostwriter went through? There\u2019s no Hilaria Baldwin-to-English translator on Google.
