This is the first year that cinematography has been included in the Oscar shortlist, and on the list are such familiar names as Dan Laustsen<\/a>, Guillermo del Toro<\/a>\u2019s go-to Dp, and Robbie Ryan<\/a>, who works regularly with Yorgos Lanthimos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But there\u2019s a trend: three women made the cut, Autumn Durald Arkapaw<\/a> (\u201cSinners<\/a>\u201d), Alice Brooks<\/a> (\u201cWicked: For Good<\/a>\u201d) and Amy Vincent<\/a> (\u201cSong Sung Blue<\/a>\u201d).<\/p>\n

In the history of the category, no woman has ever won the Oscar for cinematography, and only three women have ever been nominated: Rachel Morrison<\/a> in 2018 for \u201cMudbound<\/a>,\u201d Ari Wegner<\/a> in 2021 for \u201cThe Power of the Dog<\/a>\u201d and Mandy Walker<\/a> in 2022 for \u201cElvis.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year, Arkapaw made history as the first female cinematographer to shoot on Imax 65mm and Ultra Panavision for \u201cSinners<\/a>,\u201d and looks like a front-runner. With a win, she would not only be the first woman<\/p>\n
