As 2026 rolls around, we\u2019re already starting to make plans for our summer festivals.\u00a0There\u2019s a huge Glastonbury-shaped hole<\/a> in our calendars this year, but not to worry, because London festival season is already promising to be a belter<\/a>.\u00a0However, the future of events in Brockwell Park has been thrown into uncertainty for a second year in a row.\u00a0<\/p>\n In 2025 the group\u00a0Protect Brockwell Park (PBP) launched a legal campaign to cancel events and festivals in the public park<\/a>. After a court battle, the events \u2013 which included Field Day<\/a>, Cross the Tracks<\/a> and Mighty Hoopla \u2013 still went ahead. Now the group has\u00a0launched\u00a0a new\u00a0objection to the day festivals for 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n RECOMMENDED: The best music festivals in London to book for 2026<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n PBP has submitted an official objection to Lambeth Council after\u00a0Summer Events Ltd<\/span>, which runs\u00a0Brockwell Live\u00a0festivals, has applied for planning permission to temporarily build in the park over the summer.\u00a0Brockwell Live has applied to use the park for\u00a0up to 32 days for five one-day events, to take place at the end of May 2026. This is the first time the events company has had to apply for planning permission to run the festivals, which previously operated under\u00a0permitted development rights until PBP\u00a0won its legal\u00a0challenge in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n Taking what it called a \u2018new approach\u2019, Lambeth Council opened a public consultation into the 2026 events at the end of 2025,\u00a0which closed on December 31.\u00a0But PBP is continuing to fight the festivals with legal challenges, and has demanded that the consultation be extended.<\/p>\n According to PBP, the series of festivals in the south London park are not temporary, but \u2018part of an obviously prolonged and recurring use with lasting effects beyond the event period\u2019. The group has also argued that the events will do more harm than good for the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n The group said the planning proposals\u00a0\u2018constitute inappropriate development\u2019 on metropolitan open land, and will\u00a0cause harm to the \u2018openness and the essential parkland character\u2019 of Brockwell Park.
