Sure!<\/p>\n<p>Stranger still, the LaGuardia High grad channeled \u201cThis Is Spinal Tap\u201d when he posted a satirical video of a Zoom meeting with A24\u2019s marketing team in which he spitballed that the Eiffel Tower be turned orange to celebrate \u201cSupreme.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There were crazier curveballs to come. Across the English Channel, Chalamet gushed that one of his greatest inspirations is \u201cBritain\u2019s Got Talent\u201d breakout star Susan Boyle, and even mailed her a jacket.<\/p>\n<p>What could possibly bind the \u201cWonka\u201d actor and the Scottish \u201cI Dreamed A Dream\u201d singer? He told the BBC, Boyle \u201cdreamt bigger than all of us,\u201d referencing his film\u2019s \u201cdream big\u201d tagline.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet has been traveling with a posse of dudes wearing ping-pong ball heads. <span class=\"credit\">BlayzenPhotos \/ BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His stunt parade is practically performance art. I have never seen anything quite like it.<\/p>\n<p>Yet plenty of pearl-clutchers \u2014 mostly older and more traditional \u2014 have kvetched that Chalamet\u2019s bizarre, attention-getting methods are a turn-off to potential customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They argue he\u2019s weird-ing himself out of an Oscar.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They said none of this viral frivolity would pay off.<\/p>\n<p>They are all dead wrong.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet became the first person to stand on top of the Sphere in Las Vegas.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The Sphere turned into a giant \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d ad.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every one of Chalamet\u2019s headline-making moves has been totally inspired. He has single-handedly schooled hopeless Hollywood in how to reach out to Gen. Z audiences that they simply do not understand. <\/p>\n<p>Big names like Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson, Jennifer Lopez and Bruce Springsteen couldn\u2019t generate enthusiasm for their prestige pictures. But Chalamet has done so \u2014 and how \u2014 while staying authentic and having fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s the merch or the Zoom or the media appearances, I\u2019m trying to get this out in the biggest way possible,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/awards\/consider-this\/timothee-chalamet-interview-marty-supreme-1235169009\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he told IndieWire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>God forbid celebrities take a genuine interest in promoting their films instead of their usual \u201cWalking Dead\u201d zombie walk through a robotic media tour.   <\/p>\n<p>Cranky detractors call the hustler, who\u2019s fantastic in \u201cMarty,\u201d \u201ccocky.\u201d But what, exactly, is cocky about not lazily assuming that the public will flock to your movie solely because you\u2019re in it? Shrewd is what he is.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His stellar outcome completely contradicts the belief that viewers have lost interest in adult-skewing flicks like \u201cMarty\u201d; that they\u2019ll never leave their couch again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not so, it turns out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sources told The Post that Kylie Jenner has been a force behind his innovative marketing tactics. <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Times have changed, and long-held wisdoms of how to sell a film no longer apply. A couple trailers, a customary \u201cTonight Show\u201d appearance and a legacy media profile are not motivating enough. Nobody really notices any of that anymore.<\/p>\n<p>But attention has been paid to \u201cMarty Supreme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director Josh Safdie\u2019s anxiety-fueled fever dream about a 1950s table tennis player has grossed an impressive $56 million so far domestically and is on track to reach $100 million. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That means that in the US, it will outgross fellow Oscar contender \u201cOne Battle After Another,\u201d which Leonardo DiCaprio \u2014 so classy, so classy \u2014 did minimal press for and cost a lot more money to make.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarty\u201d hasn\u2019t even been rolled out yet in most international markets where the \u201cDune\u201d actor is a proven draw.<\/p>\n<p>But in the UK, Variety reported that the dramedy has <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/global\/marty-supreme-a24-highest-grossing-film-uk-1236624237\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already broken a record<\/a> for its studio, A24.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In less than two weeks it topped their previous top British release, \u201cCivil War,\u201d which had a lifetime gross of $8.2 million.  <\/p>\n<p>Guaranteed Oscar nods for best picture and best actor will drive these totals higher.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>So far, \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d has notched an impressive $56 million domestically.  <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for shiny prizes, Chalamet took home the first significant trophy of the season on Sunday \u2014 the Critics Choice Award for best actor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He could very well repeat the feat this weekend at the Golden Globes, where he competes against Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and George Clooney.<\/p>\n<p>But what about the all-important Oscars, which are voted on by members of the industry and not entertainment journalists.<\/p>\n<p>His chances are high. Back in November I went to a \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d screening that Chalamet attended in New York.
