Marshall said her grandma died about five years ago from bladder cancer.<\/p>\n
Marshall\u2019s romantic partner, Robert, has not taken up the mantle. His family has beef with her addiction, going so far as to pick a bone with Marshall at a cookout at her home.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m about to throw up,\u201d Robert\u2019s cousin\u2019s wife warned as Marshall bit into a raw steak on the TLC series.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a little hard to accept someone who eats raw meat at the dinner table,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Robert\u2019s family\u2019s concerns prompt Marshall to meet with nurse practitioner Vanessa Cabrera about what\u2019s at stake if she doesn\u2019t chuck her habit.<\/p>\n\u201cThe ripping of the flesh and, like, the tendons popping and, like, the blood, it\u2019s all just so great,\u201d Marshall said on \u201cMy Strange Addiction.\u201d TLC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nCabrera identified a chronic E. coli infection in Marshall\u2019s colon from her stool sample. <\/p>\n
Most E. coli strains in the gut are harmless and part of a healthy bacterial landscape, but certain strains can cause severe illness.<\/p>\n\n\t<\/aside>\n\u201cIt\u2019s interesting because typically someone with that would have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, all of that kind of stuff,\u201d Cabrera told Marshall.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn seeing that you don\u2019t have any symptoms, it leads me to believe that it\u2019s been there for such a long time that your body is adapted to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cabrera noted that the immune-compromising bacteria have \u201cprobably become resistant to almost every single type of antibiotic.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSo if you were to get sick with any other type of illness coupled with that bacteria there, it would be very difficult for the antibiotics to work,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Marshall said it was \u201cvery scary\u201d that antibiotics might not work in a life-or-death situation.<\/p>\n
She promised to make \u201chealthier decisions\u201d moving forward and set some ground beef rules for herself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not going to stop eating raw meat \u2014 I plan to eat grass-fed, only from a good source,\u201d Marshall vowed on the episode.<\/p>\n\u201cWhile I\u2019m eating raw meat, it\u2019s like nothing matters at that point in time,\u201d Marshall said. TLC<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cNo more ground at all, not even if it\u2019s grass-fed,\u201d she continued. \u201cFor my health, to be here for my children, and for my husband and family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Marshall told The Post that she hasn\u2019t consumed raw ground meat since the show filmed over the summer, \u201cbut I can\u2019t say that I won\u2019t try it again in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said she has not experienced any side effects from her protein proclivity.<\/p>\n
\u201cOther than the medical diagnosis on paper, I have no symptoms of anything, and due to myself and my family eating raw meat for so long, I do not believe anything will happen to me or my family in the future,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf anything, it\u2019s amazing there were no symptoms of E. coli, unlike people who don\u2019t eat raw meat, they\u2019d be deathly ill. We are immune.\u201d<\/p>\n
