On the latest episode of American Songwriter\u2019s <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/off-the-record-an-american-songwriter-podcast\/id1850799015?i=1000744080678\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Off the Record<\/a><\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/walker-hayes-discusses-his-grief-family-and-latest-album-on-american-songwriters-off-the-record-episode-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">podcast<\/a>, Nanna Brynd\u00eds Hilmarsd\u00f3ttir and Ragnar \u201cRaggi\u201d \u00de\u00f3rhallsson discussed their new album, <em>All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Released in October, <em>All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade<\/em>, which the musicians made with bandmates Brynjar Leifsson, Arnar R\u00f3senkranz Hilmarsson, and Kristj\u00e1n P\u00e1ll Kristj\u00e1nsson, explores topics including love and pain. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Spotify Embed: Of Monsters and Men: Iceland, Songwriting, and the Stories Behind the Music\" style=\"border-radius: 12px\" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/7Cg7LJPntBH3EpmgmdsjEr\/video?si=72FWmtXvTam6isI3KHackQ&amp;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Those feelings are especially clear on \u201cThe Block\u201d and \u201cMouse Parade,\u201d two tracks that bleed into each other, with the former about people living in a high rise building, and the latter about the community of mice dwelling under the floorboards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it just kind of summed up the experience of making this album, and I think our lives for the past few years,\u201d Hilmarsd\u00f3ttir said of the LP\u2019s title. \u201c\u2026 It\u2019s like these two opposites\u2026 and we\u2019re very attracted to opposites and to these two worlds that are connected.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-of-monsters-and-men-discuss-all-is-love-and-pain-in-the-mouse-parade-stand-outs\">Of Monsters and Men Discuss <em>All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade<\/em> Stand Outs<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio  is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"\/>\n<p>The 13-track album also includes \u201cThe Actor.\u201d The song nearly made it onto Hilmarsd\u00f3ttir\u2019s 2023 solo release, <em>How to Start a Garden<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt that point I was feeling a little bit fed up,\u201d she said. \u201cI think I was putting out my album, and it was feeling a bit stressful. The whole process was feeling daunting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had come from writing, where it\u2019s so pure and you\u2019re not thinking about the outside world at all. You\u2019re not thinking about anything. It\u2019s just you making this thing,\u201d Hilmarsd\u00f3ttir continued. \u201cThen you go into this next chapter, which is releasing, and there are so many things that come with it. I think I was just feeling a little bit lost in it, and that\u2019s where the song comes from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00de\u00f3rhallsson got to explore his own complicated emotions on \u201cTuna in a Can,\u201d a song that came about when he was \u201cfeeling like a little tuna in a can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s about when you feel] kind of trapped, when you\u2019re kind of sheltering yourself from life a bit, and you feel kind of like all mushy and weird,\u201d he explained. \u201cSo that was like that original feeling of the song. [I was] kind of writing almost to a person that\u2019s kind of shying away from life\u2026 wanting to just be in his can, stuck there, safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s \u201cStyrofoam Cathedral,\u201d which \u00de\u00f3rhallsson counts as his favorite to play because \u201cIt just gives me such energy. I get to scream, and I like screaming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the LP is one that \u00de\u00f3rhallsson believes stands out from their previous releases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think there are elements in this album that you can find on other albums, kind of.
