And if a deal with DAZN, a British on-demand sports streaming service, wasn\u2019t completed by the end of January, Main Street Sports <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/sports\/spt-columns-blogs\/for-petes-sake\/article313880688.html#campaignName=kansascity_royals_sp_newsletter&amp;linkType=nmeintro\">would cease operations<\/a> by late spring, just when the Royals\u2019 season is set to start.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Royals haven\u2019t reported a missed payment from Main Street Sports, but there was more worrisome news this week for the company. It \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/05\/main-street-misses-january-payments-to-nba-teams-15-day-cure-period-begins-soon\/\">missed its January payments<\/a> to numerous undisclosed NBA teams,\u201d according to the Sports Business Journal, which noted Main Street Sports has broadcast rights for 13 NBA franchises.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Awful Announcing reported the DAZN deal was in \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/awfulannouncing.com\/local-networks\/fanduel-sports-networks-miss-rights-payments-nba-teams.html\">serious doubt<\/a>.\u201d If the arrangement between Main Street Sports and DAZN fails, Main Street Sports reportedly will cease operations in the spring and the Royals\u2019 local TV rights would revert to the team. Should that happen, the most likely scenario would have Major League Baseball take over Royals broadcasts.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Mariners, Twins and Guardians all will <a target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6948445\/2026\/01\/07\/fanduel-sports-network-renegotiate-payments-cardinals\/\">have broadcasts run by MLB<\/a> this season, according to The Athletic. If that happens to the Royals, Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler would still be calling games, and fans would still have access to them in Kansas City on cable or via a streaming service.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the uncertainty of what company would be broadcasting Royals games, which begin in less than three months, there is the financial aspect of Main Street Sports\u2019 demise.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>That Athletic story said Main Street Sports lost $200 million in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMain Street and other traditional RSNs promise teams a fixed amount per season for their TV rights, typically tens of millions for most teams,\u201d wrote the Athletic\u2019s Evan Drellich and Katie Woo. \u201cTeams carried by MLB, however, are not promised a fixed fee by the league.
