Rose McGowan<\/strong><\/a> claims that Charmed <\/i><\/a>producers monitored her weight while she starred on the show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey would, like, circle around me to check my weight when I came back\u201d at the start of each season, McGowan, 52, said on the Tuesday, January 6 episode of Paul C. Brunson<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cWe Need to Talk<\/span><\/a>\u201d podcast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She added that she thinks they were \u201c<\/span>inspecting their product.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

McGowan recalled that such behavior, back then, was treated as \u201ccompletely fine.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Charmed, which premiered on The WB in 1998, made headlines from the start as Aaron Spelling hired Shannen Doherty to play one of the three Halliwell sisters, four years after she was infamously let go from Spelling Television\u2019s Beverly Hills, 90210. \u201c[Aaron] [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She played Paige Matthews for five seasons of Charmed<\/i>, the WB fantasy series about San Francisco sisters who have secret supernatural powers. It was produced by Aaron Spelling<\/strong> and Brad Kern<\/strong>, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charmed<\/i> ran from 1998 to 2006 and originally starred Shannen Doherty<\/strong>, Holly Marie Combs<\/strong> and Alyssa Milano<\/strong> as a trio of do-gooding witches. Doherty, who played Prue Halliwell, left the show after three seasons. McGowan was introduced as half-sister Paige in season four. She had previously made her mark in edgier fare, having starred in the films Scream <\/i>(1996), Devil in the Flesh <\/i>(1998) and Jawbreaker <\/i>(1999).<\/span><\/p>\n

During her interview with Brunson, 50, McGowan recalled the pressure to tone down her style and\u00a0<\/span>appear \u201cso mainstream\u201d amid her Charmed <\/i>run.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI knew the knives would be out,\u201d she said, referencing the aftermath of Doherty\u2019s departure. \u201cThat the fans would want \u2026 the person, the other character, that they loved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRose McGowan is getting candid about grieving the death of fellow Charmed star Shannen Doherty at the age of 53. \u201cI can\u2019t stop crying,\u201d McGowan, 50, wrote via Instagram comment on Sunday, July 14. \u201cA world without Shannen Doherty is inconceivable.\u201d McGowan had replied to Jawbreaker costar Julie Benz, who called Doherty\u2019s death \u201cheartbreaking\u201d in [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To endear herself to those viewers, McGowan \u201cdecided to base my character kind of on I Love Lucy<\/i>. Lucille Ball<\/strong>. What if she was young and in this situation, just kind of lovable, like kind of goofy and soft? I\u2019d pitch my voice higher and be non-threatening. Because I was \u2018scary\u2019 to people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to Charmed<\/i>, \u201cI would dress myself if I ever had to go to an event,\u201d McGowan said. \u201cOr do my own makeup, things like that. And then, during that whole period when I was on that show, it all changed. All of a sudden, you had to have a stylist. You had to pay $6,000 a month to a stylist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

McGowan said stylists would reject clothes she wanted to wear, telling her \u201c\u2018That\u2019s too editorial\u2019 \u2014 meaning that\u2019s too edgy and fashion.\u201d She said they selected outfits that were more \u201cred carpet.\u00a0<\/span>And then they\u2019d put globs of makeup [on her] and giant helmet hair.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After the show ended, McGowan and Doherty formed a friendship<\/a>. In August 2024, a month after Doherty died of cancer at age 53, McGowan guest-hosted her podcast, \u201cLet\u2019s Be Clear.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The actress, who played Prue Halliwell for three seasons before her character was killed off, was asked whether she regrets not appearing in the show\u2019s final episode during a Q&A on the Monday, May 20, episode of her \u201cLet\u2019s Be Clear\u201d podcast. The answer? \u201cNo.\u201d \u201cI [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIf I have any regrets, I wish I could have gotten to know her sooner,\u201d she said at the time, adding, \u201cWe were really pitted against each other. I was just told she was fired and nobody talked about her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
