In a statement to coincide with the new track, the former Smiths frontman shared on his website, \u201cThe wait has sometimes felt like a tragedy, but the release today of \u2018Make-up is a Lie\u2019 is like a reunion of lovers. And after several plays it seems to have existed always. We can now place our faith in what is visible.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also instructed his fans, \u201cPlease sit in your favorite chair in your dark cabin with the lights out \u2013 or, get off your head and enjoy some impulsive self-humiliation \u2013 as I often do.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Mancunian continued, \u201cI hope you consider \u2018Make-up is a Lie\u2019 to be worth the attention that you give it. Many of us, here, and in France, Turkey, Poland, The Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, America, England \u2026 we have waited because our belief is unchallengeable: let the squawkers squawk.\u201d<\/p>\n
His post concluded, \u201cWhat survives beyond their grasp is love. I insist on being myself in spite of much discouragement, and this new music is a valid portrait of much more to come in 2026. Born, then born, and born again. I am your lover-to-be,\u00a0MORRISSEY.\u201d<\/p>\n
The album was produced by Joe Chiccarelli, who has previously worked with the likes of The Strokes and The Shins, at Studio La Fabrique in Southern France. Intriguingly, Make-Up Is A Lie <\/em>contains a cover of Roxy Music\u2019s track, \u2018Amazona\u2019.<\/p>\nMorrissey has not released a studio album since\u00a0I Am Not a Dog on a Chain<\/em>, which arrived via BMG in 2020. Since then, he announced\u00a0Bonfire of Teenagers;<\/em>\u00a0however, he left Capitol Recor<\/span>ds, and the album has never materialised.<\/p>\nFollowing the release of Make-Up Is A Lie<\/em> on February 27th, Morrissey will perform at London\u2019s O2 Arena<\/a> a day later, which is his only scheduled UK date.<\/p>\nSee the full tracklist below.<\/p>\n
