Hilary Duff<\/strong> <\/a>is not holding back in her new music.<\/p>\n

Duff, 38, dropped a sneak peek of her new single, \u201cRoommates,\u201d via social media<\/a> on Friday, January 9.<\/p>\n

\u201cWant the highlights, 10 out of 10 \/ Butterflies from holding your hand,\u201d she sings. \u201cBefore we swept us under the bed \/ We became practically roommates.\u201d<\/p>\n

She adds, \u201cBeen touching myself by the front door \/ \u2018Cause you don\u2019t even know my way<\/a> no more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt took Hilary Duff a decade to release new music \u2014 and she had a clear reason for her return to the industry. \u201cIt was always going to happen. There\u2019s no way that [music] was not going to be part of my story,\u201d Duff, 38, said on the Wednesday, November 5, episode of the \u201cTherapuss\u201d [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Duff announced on Friday that \u201cRoommates\u201d will be available to stream starting Thursday, January 15, at 7 p.m. ET. It\u2019s presumably one of the tracks from her upcoming album, Luck \u2026 Or Something<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am often asked how I still have my head on straight after growing up in this industry,\u201d Duff said in a November 2025 press release announcing the new LP<\/a>. \u201cThe album title is my way of answering that question. It\u2019s luck, but there\u2019s also a lot of weight in the \u2018 \u2026 or something.\u2019 Many of the things I\u2019ve been through along the way are held there, and I feel like ultimately that\u2019s what\u2019s shaped me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luck \u2026 Or Something <\/i>will be Duff\u2019s first new album in 10 years following 2015\u2019s Breathe In. Breathe Out. <\/i>The album\u2019s debut single, \u201cMature,\u201d dropped in November 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is definitely about a brief experience that I had in my [life] \u2014 a long, long time ago,\u201d Duff told Vogue <\/i>at the time<\/a>, hinting \u201cMature\u201d was about one of her past relationships. \u201cIt is not totally autobiographical. I took a few artistic liberties just to make the song work structurally, but the gist is the gist.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cI was looking back on this relationship and thinking about whether this guy had a habit of dating younger women or whether I was \u2018special.\u2019 The whole experience was super therapeutic to write about, but being so vulnerable through your music can be really scary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duff wrote \u201cMature\u201d and most of the album alongside her husband, Matthew Koma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Mature\u2019 is a conversation with my younger self about being happy with where I landed,\u201d she recalled to the outlet. <\/i>\u201cPart of it was an idea that Matt originated, and part of it came from thinking about that idea of not recognizing younger versions of yourself when you\u2019re now deep into your 30s. Matt, obviously, knows all the stories from my past, and he\u2019s so great at coming up with a concept where I get to go in and interior design the whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a TikTok video posted on Wednesday, July 12, Koma, 36, revealed his wife\u2019s \u201cbeige flag\u201d is \u201cfalling asleep 8 minutes after a movie starts on a Saturday night even though she sang a song about waking [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Duff has been married to Winnetka Bowling League musician Koma, 38, since 2019. They share three daughters, while Duff is also mom of son Luca from a previous marriage.<\/p>\n
