I mean, look around, people. There is so much threat, danger, and trauma. Fight or flight? Why choose one? There\u2019s enough opportunity these days for the answer to be: all of the above.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That is how I would describe the experience of watching <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tv\/articles\/pitt-season-2-best-medical-160000229.html\" rel=\"\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Pitt;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><i>The Pitt<\/i><\/a>, the HBO Max medical drama that is officially back for Season 2. As in, you can stream the first episode right now! Get those boxing gloves ready. Or maybe lace up those running shoes. If you\u2019re like me, best to do both.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><i>The Pitt<\/i>, as I was just talking to my colleague Matt Wilstein about for a new episode of Obsessed: The Podcast (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCWqoONyEqw9mrFMDRdnaQfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Subscribe;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Subscribe<\/a>! <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/obsessed-the-podcast\/id1456474041\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Follow;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Follow<\/a>! <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/show\/0LpQqaacXVa9ncyyBt3V3B\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Listen;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Listen<\/a>!), is simultaneously the most comforting and the most stressful series on TV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Each episode takes place during one hour of a 15-hour ER shift, offering a brutally unflinching look inside a powder keg: hordes of waiting patients with gruesome injuries clamoring to be seen by doctors and nurses, who cut them open in desperate attempts to save them. That\u2019s all while they weather the emotional toll of being on the front lines of the highest life-and-death stakes takes on a person.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">People flock to a show like <i>The Pitt<\/i> because that kind of drama is inherently powerful; I can\u2019t imagine anything more fascinating than being a fly on the wall, witnessing the endless gauntlet of intensity in an emergency room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I could also see why, with the world such that the daily news might cause your blood pressure to spike to levels that would also require medical attention, a person would have no interest in any TV series remotely upsetting or \u201chard to watch,\u201d which <i>The Pitt <\/i>can often be. But in its unfiltered look at the hectic mania of an emergency room, you see, almost constantly, the grace and saintly steeliness these medical professionals possess. You also, with great care on the part of the show\u2019s creative team, witness a certain generosity that\u2019s intrinsically shared among the hospital\u2019s staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That\u2019s especially true of Noah Wyle\u2019s Dr. Robby, who, sometimes to his emotional detriment, leaves more space for the growth, pain, and healing of his employees than he does for himself. And when Dr. Robby, one of the doctors, or even the patients and their families succumb to the heaviness of what they\u2019re experiencing, it\u2019s a resonant, relatable glimpse of the human spirit for viewers to latch onto.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s a reminder to us all that, sure, it may resemble fire and brimstone out there. But there\u2019s something in the best of us still capable of extinguishing it. Also, if I ever have a medical emergency, I will, apparently, end up naked in front of an entire staff of doctors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So thank you, <i>The Pitt<\/i>, for motivating me to live a cautious life. Swearing off fireworks on the Fourth of July is more than worth it to mitigate the risk of having to rush to the ER and have my penis flop out of my pants as medics cut off my clothes because one accidentally exploded on me. Safety first.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\"><b>Get Him Off My TV!<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tv\/articles\/travis-kelce-mom-steals-best-020000730.html\" rel=\"\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Traitors is back;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><i>The Traitors <\/i>is back<\/a>, and TV is never more in its utopian state than it is when a bunch of Real Housewives, some figure skaters, a buncha hot boys from reality TV dating shows, the guy from <i>Laguna Beach<\/i>, and, inexplicably, Travis Kelce\u2019s mother are gallivanting around the Scottish Highlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">When my elementary school chorus sang, \u201cHeal the world, make it a better place\u2026\u201d this was the future, no doubt, we were all envisioning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The first three episodes of the new season are so much fun to watch that not even the presence of the most obnoxious person on TV, actor Michael Rapaport, ruins things. He\u2019s just exhausting. The only semi-tolerable takeaway from his presence this season is watching how much the other cast members hate him, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s to the point that, just hours after the premiere episodes aired, headlines like \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/the-traitors-michael-rapaport-annoying-game-analysis.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Is Michael Rapaport Ruining The Traitors?;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Is Michael Rapaport Ruining <i>The Traitors<\/i>?<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.out.com\/gay-tv-shows\/traitors-michael-rapaport-controversy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Traitors Star Michael Rapaport Has a Long History of Being Unlikable;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><i>The Traitors<\/i> Star Michael Rapaport Has a Long History of Being Unlikable<\/a>\u201d began appearing on major websites\u2014to say nothing of the social media reaction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I\u2019m curious how the rest of the season plays out. Have we found our new TV nemesis? Or is he just an irritating reality-TV fly whose hopefully going to flit away soon?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"mb-4 text-xl font-bold md:text-2xl\"><b>The Best Celebrities of the Week<\/b><\/h2>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s been a banner week for my favorite celebrities being the absolute best. (I can\u2019t articulate it, but I know you know what you mean: How satisfying it is when you have some subconscious obsession with a particular star, and then they end up doing something really great and you\u2019re like, \u201cOh, congratulations, id, on being right!\u201d)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Three marquee Kevin Fallon Hall of Famers delighted me this week:<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cher, when she appeared on Dax Shepard\u2019s podcast and said, with regard to his marriage to Kristen Bell: \u201cYou must have something that I don\u2019t see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><i>Abbott Elementary <\/i>star Janelle James pulled double duty, first when accepting her first Critics Choice Award and quipping that the advantage of losing four times previously is that she knows now that \u201cthey\u2019re never gonna feed us at this thing. It\u2019s gonna be just grapes and ice cream every year, but this makes up for it!\u201d (I\u2019ve attended that show many times\u2026and she\u2019s right.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Then there\u2019s the interview after she and <i>Heated Rivalry <\/i>star Connor Storrie announced the nominations for the newly rebranded The Actor Awards (stupid name!), when she was lasciviously asked what she thought about the steamy sex and nude scenes Storrie filmed for the series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThat\u2019s not what I\u2019m thinking about,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m thinking about his excellent Russian accent that he does, about his characterization. I\u2019m thinking that he is adorable. He looks like a leading man, and I\u2019m excited to see where he goes next.\u201d A class act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And speaking of class acts, I\u2019ve said it before, and I\u2019ll be such a broken record about it forever that, if someone fixes the record, I\u2019ll just break it again: Sarah Jessica Parker is the best celebrity we have.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She accepted the Golden Globes\u2019 Carol Burnett Award for lifetime achievement in television, and her speech sparkled not just with charisma, but an earnestness and authenticity that we\u2019re trained, now, to think is corny\u2014but was so effortlessly entertaining and moving.
