On Thursday, The Clarks released a new EP titled \u201cEchoes From The Pitt\u201d with a re-recorded version of \u201cBetter Off Without You\u201d to introduce a new influx of listeners to the band.<\/p>\n<p>The Clarks formed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1986 and found success with songs such as \u201cPenny on the Floor\u201d and \u201cCigarette.\u201d Their most successful album to date \u2014 2000\u2019s \u201cLet It Go\u201d \u2014 included \u201cBetter Off Without You.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lead singer Scott Blasey told TribLive that \u201cThe Pitt\u201d executive producer R. Scott Gemmill reached out to the band last summer about putting their music in the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe started looking into Pittsburgh music and he came across The Clarks,\u201d Blasey said. \u201cHe found our music, he really liked it, really loved \u2018Better Off Without You\u2019 and decided he wanted to use it in the opening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To capitalize on this new exposure, the band\u2019s manager suggested they put out a new EP with \u201cThe Pitt\u201d in its name. In the fall, The Clarks headed into the studio and re-recorded \u201cBetter Off Without You (The Clarks Version)\u201d along with laying down covers of \u201cWouldn\u2019t It Be Good\u201d by Nick Kershaw and \u201cWalk Away\u201d by The James Gang. The EP also includes the band\u2019s two most recent singles, \u201cNo. 9\u201d and \u201cSupernatural.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new version of \u201cBetter Off Without You\u201d is faithful to the original but features harder-hitting drums and a crisper, more prominent guitar that enhance the rock tune.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Clarks - &quot;Better Off Without You (The Clarks Version)&quot; [Official Audio]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3_QDpGiIUwA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The Clarks manager Rishon Blumberg, of Brick Wall Management, thought that \u201cThe Pitt\u201d fans who were seeking out music from the show would come across the EP while searching for their favorite show on streaming services, Blasey said.<\/p>\n<p>The Clarks are celebrating their 40th anniversary as a band this year, and Blasey had a message for new listeners who may be hearing them for the first time:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcome. Thanks for listening. \u2026 Come see our show. Maybe we\u2019ll come to where you are someday,\u201d he said. \u201cOur kids are all getting a little older now, so maybe we\u2019ll do a little more traveling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also has some song recommendations for people just discovering the band\u2019s music, including favorite songs \u201cBorn Too Late,\u201d \u201cIrene\u201d and \u201cShimmy Low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEchoes From The Pitt\u201d is available on all streaming services, and Blasey said that he hopes curious music fans will delve into the band\u2019s other top songs and deeper cuts.<\/p>\n<p>After 40 years, Blasey said that there\u2019s no notion of slowing down in his mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just one of the biggest blessings of my life,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m just so thankful that we\u2019re all still together. We\u2019re lifelong friends. And that\u2019s just a really cool thing that we\u2019re still doing it.
