So Katy Perry\u2019s single has been torched by critics, which was expected. There are a couple of things happening here, I think: the march of time on pop stars, which we\u2019ve talked about time and again. And the comfort of which critics feel that, like Justin Timberlake, it\u2019s safe to give their honest opinion. That doesn\u2019t happen with every artist because of the power imbalance and fandoms.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for Katy, I think what\u2019s building here is that \u201cWoman\u2019s World\u201d is not received well because the intent was satire. Of course I\u2019m being over-the-top because Odell has been famous in sports for a long time and Kordell has been famous for five minutes but it must be a trip to be in a famous sibling\u2019s shadow for decades and now be famous yourself \u2013 but you are quarantined and don\u2019t know it. This show is bonkers.<\/p>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Last Friday, I had a little blurb about Richard Simmons but wanted to save it for today. It was his birthday and PEOPLE had a story up<\/a> about his birthday and at the time, I wrote that it\u2019s nice to hear from Richard on his terms. There are celebrities who can be nice and there are celebrities who claim to be kind and Richard was both. A bursting ball of sunshine who was good to people at a time when it was considered radical to show empathy and vulnerability, particularly for a man on TV.<\/p>\n
