It\u2019s a Champagne-soaked party featuring some of the biggest names in film and television, even if the awards won\u2019t exactly forecast the Oscars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d topped the list of nominations with nine, closely followed by \u201cSentimental Value\u201d with eight. \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d was snubbed for best picture and best director. Others left out include Joe Rogan (for the new podcast category ), Sydney Sweeney and Gwyneth Paltrow, leaving room for plenty of surprise inclusions. (Photo by Richard Shotwell\/Invision\/AP)<\/p>\n<p>The Globes is being broadcast on CBS and is available to stream through Paramount+.<\/p>\n<p>The Latest:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scenes from the ballroom bar, including a Jennifer Lawrence-Emma Stone moment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Glen Powell chatted up Seth Rogen, hopefully about a guest spot on \u201cThe Studio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer Lawrence made her way to the bar area where she hugged Jeremy Allen White before finding Emma Stone, who put down her white wine and took her friend\u2019s face in her hands. They fluffed their hair when a photographer asked for a photo before they decided to take their own selfie as well.<\/p>\n<p>Kirsten Dunst spotted Lawrence nearby too, telling Mona Fastvold and Zo\u00eb Kravitz that she just wanted to say hi. Jesse Plemons soon arrived with three drinks to dole out. One was not for Lawrence, who went to stand in line for the bar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ricky Gervais, \u2018Mortality,\u2019 wins best stand-up comedy on television<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While Gervais missed the Globes this year, the stand-up comedy performance winner has hosted five times, often using the opportunity to poke fun at Hollywood\u2019s liberal elite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love you for not being here,\u201d said Wanda Sykes, introducing the category.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you win, I get to accept the award on your behalf,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd you\u2019re gonna thank God \u2014 and the trans community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A moment for \u2018Heated Rivalry\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\n          \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams leaned into their breakout star status, with Storrie playing up the nerves as he strolled shakily onstage to help announce the winner for female supporting actor in a television series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust take a deep breath and picture everyone in the audience \u2026 you know,\u201d Williams suggested, omitting \u201cnaked\u201d from his advice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really know if that works, considering everyone\u2019s seen us \u2026 you know,\u201d Storrie responded, referring to their show\u2019s explicit sex scenes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018The Secret Agent,\u2019 Brazil, wins best motion picture, non-English language<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Director Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho describes his film as an unusual blockbuster made in his home country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d love to say hello to everybody watching in Brazil \u2014 Hello, Brazil,\u201d said Filho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very important moment in time in history to be making films. Here in the U.S. and in Brazil,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Brazilian film \u201cI\u2019m Still Here\u201d won best foreign film and best actress in a drama motion picture at the Globes.<\/p>\n<p>Filho was the first victim of being played off. Despite not having a noticeably long speech, was subjected to swelling orchestral music as he delivered his acceptance speech. There is less than an hour left in the telecast and 10 categories still to go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikki Glaser, from babysitter to celeb-roaster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tables turned on Nikki Glaser for a moment, when Judd Apatow took the stage to present best director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNikki Glaser used to be our babysitter,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s true. She was our babysitter. And she\u2019s like, \u2018I do standup comedy.\u2019 And then I went online to watch her set and it was all about smoking reefer and having weird sex and then she stopped being our babysitter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Stephen Graham scored bragging points with his kids<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not for winning a Golden Globe but for meeting Snoop Dogg: \u201cHe shook my hand and he looked me right in the eyes \u2014 couldn\u2019t see his eyes because he had his glasses on \u2014 and said, \u2018You\u2019re a motherf\u2014\u2013\u2019 gangster,\u201d Graham said backstage. \u201cMy life is complete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018KPop Demon Hunters\u2019 wins best animated movie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Director Maggie Kang said \u201cthrough this film we really wanted to depict female characters the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird, really hungry for food and sometimes really thirsty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Thomas Anderson, \u2018One Battle After Another,\u2019 wins best director<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anderson gave a special thanks to Warner Bros.\u2019 Mike De Luca.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe came into my life, he wanted to be my champion, and he single handedly has supported me and the movies that I wanted to make,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bronsteins go back to back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The married filmmaking couple Mary Bronstein and Ronald Bronstein got thanked in back-to-back speeches.<\/p>\n<p>\n          Rose Byrne opened her acceptance for best female actor in a musical or comedy for \u201cIf I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You\u201d by saying, \u201cI share this with Mary Bronstein, my writer-director \u2026 you\u2019re just the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then moments later, when Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet won the male equivalent, he gave a shout to \u201cRonnie\u201d Bronstein, who co-wrote \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d with Josh Safdie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scenes from inside the ballroom: A dirty martini and sushi for kids<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seth Rogen treated himself to what looked like a very dirty martini after his win.<\/p>\n<p>Fashion standout Duke McCloud, 6, tried the sushi, his mom confirms. \u201cHe thought it was OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Ann Walter complimented Duke for being so good at the show because, she said, \u201cI\u2019m bored out of my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Sinners\u2019 wins cinematic and box office achievement award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ryan Coogler, the film\u2019s director, said that amid filming in the \u2018dog days of summer\u2019 that he would say, \u201cHey, big movie people gonna see this in big theater. We didn\u2019t know that they would show up. And we want to say thank you that they did. It meant the world to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hailee Steinfeld was onstage with her winning team \u2014 \u201cSinners\u201d \u2014 hours after her husband had a big playoff win with his (Josh Allen, the Buffalo Bills).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winners in a limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stephen Graham won best performance by a male actor in the category, and Michelle William best performance by a female actor.<\/p>\n<p>Williams\u2019 win marked the first no-show of the night. Her Golden Globe was accepted by the presenters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A glamorous train to the ladies room<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ariana Grande led a glamorous train to the ladies room, telling Jessie Buckley and Renate Reinsve to \u201chold on to me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three made a brief stop to say hi to Tessa Thompson before reaching their destination. In the line for the toilets, Grande sighed, \u201cPhew we made it,\u201d holding up her voluminous gown as best she could. When someone still stepped on it, she said, \u201cNo, I\u2019m the problem!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, \u2018Marty Supreme,\u2019 wins best performance by a male actor in a musical or comedy film<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chalamet thanked his dad for teaching him gratitude.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s allowed me to leave this ceremony in the past, empty handed, my head held high, grateful to just be here. I\u2019d be lying if I didn\u2019t say those moments didn\u2019t make this moment that much sweeter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The partner he sent love to was one Kylie Jenner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rose Byrne, \u2018If I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You,\u2019 wins best performance by a female actor in a musical or comedy film<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is such a shock,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She later said: \u201cWe shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50. Thank you so much. This is like a tiny film, so this is a huge thing to be up here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said her parents bought Paramount+ for tonight and thanked husband Bobby Cannavale, who was at a reptile expo in New Jersey instead of the Globes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How the ceremony defines musical\/comedy is no laughing matter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Golden Globes\u2019 definition of what qualifies as a \u201ccomedy or musical\u201d can be at times confusing. According to the Golden Globes\u2019 official rules and guidelines, there is no set definition of a \u201ccomedy,\u201d but \u201ca musical can be a comedy or a drama in which songs are used in addition to spoken dialogue to further the plot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That looseness is how you end up with Amanda Seyfried nominated in the comedy\/musical category for the decidedly dramatic \u201cThe Testament of Ann Lee,\u201d but find Jeremy Allen White in the drama category for the music-filled \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul Thomas Anderson, \u2018One Battle After Another,\u2019 wins best screenplay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Anderson \u2018stole a lotta words\u2019 for his screenplay, including from Nina Simone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re magpies,\u201d he said. \u201cWe steal all the bits and pieces that everybody says as best we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ludwig G\u00f6ransson, \u2018Sinners,\u2019 wins best original score<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Golden Globes telecast cut to commercials after the original song award, but onstage, the show went on. Ludwig G\u00f6ransson won best score for \u201cSinners,\u201d but viewers at home didn\u2019t get to see his speech.<\/p>\n<p>Backstage, the show acted like it was cutting to commercials and then abruptly went back to the presenters. It went to break after his speech. It\u2019s unclear why it was cut from the telecast.<\/p>\n<p>When the show returned from break, host Nikki Glaser parodied \u201cGolden\u201d before being cut off by Fran Drescher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Golden,\u2019 from \u2018KPop Demon Hunters,\u2019 wins best original song<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ejae, the song\u2019s singer, said the award goes to those who have had doors closed on them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fulfill one dream, to become a K-pop idol, and I was rejected and disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d soundtrack has topped the charts \u2014 debuting at No. 1 on Billboard\u2019s Soundtracks chart and No. 8 on the all-genre Billboard 200.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snoop Dogg announces he\u2019s high<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Snoop Dog says he is \u201chigh as a,\u201d \u2014 well, it was bleeped, moments before giving Amy Poehler her award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is exactly how I pictured this, Snoop giving me the award,\u201d Poehler said moments later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amy Poehler, \u2018Good Hang,\u2019 wins best podcast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter,\u201d Poehler said of her podcast.<\/p>\n<p>Poehler beat out her ex-husband Will Arnett. The two divorced a decade ago, but have publicly supported each other\u2019s podcasts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scenes from inside the ballroom: Celebrations and a stop at the bar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd\u2019s win, Sean Penn beelined to the \u201cSentimental Value\u201d table to give Renate Reinsve a big hug, while Megan Everett-Skarsg\u00e5rd celebrated with Elle Fanning.<\/p>\n<p>Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons held court in the bar area. She was halfway through pouring herself a cup of coffee when she paused. \u201cI don\u2019t even want this,\u201d she laughed, \u201cdo you?\u201d Just then Paul Mescal made his way into the side room and struck up a conversation with them.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Stone beelined to the side room after the first award, leading her \u201cBugonia\u201d director Yorgos Lanthimos and co-star Alicia Silverstone along with her. Stone and Lanthimos were deep in conversation, with brief interruptions requesting selfies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seth Rogen, \u2018The Studio,\u2019 wins best performance by a male actor in a musical or comedy series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just pretended to do this and now it\u2019s happening,\u201d Seth Rogen said as he accepted the Golden Globe from Zoe Kravitz and Dave Franco, who performed alongside him in The Studio.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked his co-performers \u2014 including Ted Sarandos, who cameoed in a Golden Globes-centered episode \u2014 but not Sal Saperstein.<\/p>\n<p>Sal Saperstein was the folk hero of the last Golden Globes \u2014 in the universe of \u201cThe Studio.\u201d Played by Ike Barinholtz, the studio executive was thanked in seemingly every speech during an episode of the Apple TV comedy set at the Globes, much to the chagrin of his boss.<\/p>\n<p>Owen Cooper, \u2018Adolescence,\u2019 wins best performance by a male actor in a supporting role (TV)<\/p>\n<p>Cooper said he was the only boy in his drama classes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI took a risk, and I went to drama classes. I was the only boy there. It was embarrassing, but you know, I got through it,\u201d the 16-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean Smart, \u2018Hacks,\u2019 wins best performance by a female actor in a musical or comedy series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Hacks\u2019 actor has won four Emmys, now three Golden Globes and three Actor Awards, formerly SAG Awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat can I say? I\u2019m a greedy b\u2014-,\u201d she said, later adding: \u201cI cannot tell you I have the best bosses. I have the best showrunners. I have the best cast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s also among the celebrities who donned anti-ICE pins in tribute to Renee Good, who was shot and killed in her car by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer this week in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Wyle, \u2018The Pitt,\u2019 wins best performance by a<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>male actor in a drama series<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wyle said he grew up in a family that supported art.<\/p>\n<p>The Dr. Robby actor says his family placed \u201ca high priority on art and on curiosity and on service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stellan Skarsgard, \u2018Sentimental Value,\u2019 wins best performance by a male actor in a supporting role<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Skarsgard shouted out his children for teaching him about fatherhood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am playing a father that is a bad father, and my children have told me what a bad father really is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teyana Taylor, \u2018One Battle After Another,\u2019 wins best performance by a female actor in a supporting role<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taylor said she almost didn\u2019t write a speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just didn\u2019t think I would get this,\u201d she said, through tears, after showing off her \u201cparty in the back\u201d dress.<\/p>\n<p>Teyana Taylor also shouted out Black and brown girls in her acceptance speech:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Was Ann Lee a real person?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amanda Seyfried is nominated for her leading turn in \u201cThe Testament of Ann Lee.\u201d The musical is based on a real-life woman: Ann Lee, known to followers as ever-blessed Mother Ann, was an 18th century Englishwoman who reported revelations from God and led a new religious movement that eventually was named the United Society of Believers in Christ\u2019s Second Appearing. It was marked by strict celibacy and ecstatic worship, with physical jerks and trembling that gave the movement its common name, the Shakers.<\/p>\n<p>Lee and a handful of early followers took a harrowing sea voyage to America, where they set up their first settlement in upstate New York during the 1770s. They embarked on numerous missionary journeys in the Northeast, gaining many converts amid a larger atmosphere of religious revivalism \u2014 even while being brutally attacked by mobs. After her death in 1784, the movement continued to spread.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nikki Glaser kicks off the show<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n          Nikki Glaser opened her monologue by saying, \u201cThe Golden Globes: without a doubt the most important thing that\u2019s happening in the world right now!\u201d She followed it with \u201cwe\u2019ll start the bidding for Warner Bros. at $5.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also handed out a set of her own Golden Globes: Best editing: Justice Department, alluding to the Epstein list. Most editing: CBS News, taking a shot at the host network\u2019s news department under new editor Bari Weiss.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, CBS News: America\u2019s newest place to see BS news,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, she made an obligatory Leonardo DiCaprio girlfriends joke:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, countless iconic performances. You\u2019ve worked with every great director. You\u2019ve won three Golden Globes and an Oscar. And the most impressive thing is that you were able to accomplish all of that before your girlfriend turned 30.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s on the menu at the Golden Globes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Globes bill itself as a giant party \u2014 and what\u2019s a party without nourishment and libations? (It is quite literally 5 p.m. somewhere \u2014 in Beverly Hills.) Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is helming the menu for the third year in a row. Here\u2019s what guests will get inside the ballroom:<\/p>\n<p>DINNER: A selection of highlights from the chef\u2019s eponymous restaurants \u2014 yellowtail jalapeno, a caviar cup, lobster salad with a spicy lemon dressing, different types of nigiri and, of course, miso black cod.<\/p>\n<p>DESSERT: White chocolate mousse, pistachio sponge and ceremonial matcha cake accompanied by a \u201cGolden Nobu\u201d coin, per a press release.<\/p>\n<p>DRINKS: Taking its boozy reputation seriously, the Globes have designated an official Champagne: Mo\u00ebt &amp; Chandon. Guests will have two choices \u2014 Mo\u00ebt Imp\u00e9rial and Mo\u00ebt Ros\u00e9 Imp\u00e9rial \u2014 described as \u201cperfectly paired\u201d with Matsuhisa\u2019s menu. They also have an official water, supplied by Saratoga Spring Water.<\/p>\n<p>If the stars\u2019 individually plated meals sound good to you, the Globes is touting a to-go package from Nobu locations in New York and LA. The promotion ends today and will run you $125. (They\u2019re also running an $83 in-house, themed lobster special. Gold leaf is involved.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Total nominations for the studios behind Hollywood\u2019s consolidation battle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warner Bros. Discovery might be facing a sale that\u2019s left the entertainment industry fraught with anxiety, but its awards season hopes are off to a good start.<\/p>\n<p>It ranks second behind independent label Neon in total motion picture nominations.
