It was a gesture she never forgot.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Bella Cat invited burlesque performers, drag stars and women of all ages to dance with her for the making of a music video for the song \u201cStrong Woman,\u201d which was paid for with a $5,000 grant from Creative BC. The funding covered the cost of filming and also supported local performers such as Shiraz Deville and the Tapatia Collective dance group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt like I wanted to give something back. Now they have new professional photos and they\u2019re in a music video and I got to pay them to do their craft.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bella Cat - Strong Woman\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/at05i_oiwak?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Bella Cat collaborated on \u201cStrong Woman\u201d with help from John Tucker, a Selkirk College instructor who also produced the single, as well as Seneca Schones.<\/p>\n<p>The song and video are a celebration of self-identified women, young and old, and of all body types. Bella Cat said she wanted the video to showcase and be in solidarity with Nelson\u2019s LGBTQ2+ community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about anybody who identifies as a woman. I see lots of my friends here struggling, so I wanted to make sure that they felt included and loved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 40 people took part in the filming on Sept. 21.
