Everyone seems to be talking about America\u2019s perhaps most famous couple, singer-songwriter superstar Taylor Swift<\/a> and three-time Super Bowl-winning football player and podcast<\/a> host Travis Kelce<\/a>, getting married. Even the President.<\/p>\n Not too long ago, Donald Trump said he \u201chates\u201d Swift, who endorsed<\/a> his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris in last year\u2019s presidential election after he had falsely implied that she endorsed him<\/a>. Since then Trump has called Swift a \u201cwoke singer\u201d who is \u201cno longer hot.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n But that didn\u2019t stop him from offering his well-wishes after Swift and Kelce announced their engagement<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n \u201cI wish them a lot of luck,\u201d Trump told reporters<\/a> during a Cabinet meeting at the White House just hours after the news. \u201cI think he\u2019s a great player, I think he\u2019s a great guy, and I think that she\u2019s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n In his many years as a public figure, Trump has been known to offer his thoughts<\/a> on news about celebrities<\/a> and their relationships<\/a>. Here\u2019s a rundown of the times Trump has commented on Swift.<\/p>\n As Swift received the Best Female Video award at the MTV Video Music Awards for \u201cYou Belong With Me\u201d on Sept. 13, rapper Kanye West notoriously interrupted<\/a> her speech, saying, \u201cBeyonc\u00e9 had one of the best videos of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n Many celebrities spoke out<\/a> in defense of Swift. Speaking to TMZ<\/a>, Trump reacted to the \u201cdisgusting\u201d outburst, calling for a boycott of the rapper \u201cso this kind of thing doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d Trump claimed West \u201ccouldn\u2019t care less about Beyonc\u00e9\u201d and was merely \u201cgrandstanding to get attention.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump called<\/a> Swift \u201cfantastic\u201d in a 2012 post on Twitter and thanked her for a \u201cbeautiful picture.\u201d It\u2019s unclear what the context of the post was or whether a photo was taken of the two together, though they both appeared the following month in a star-studded Macy\u2019s commercial<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cRe: Taylor and Conor–great news for Taylor!\u201d Trump posted<\/a> a few months later on Twitter. The post came after Swift\u2019s reported breakup<\/a> with Conor Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump\u2019s future Health Secretary.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cGlad to hear that @taylorswift13 will be co-hosting the Grammy nominations special on 12.5,\u201d Trump posted<\/a> on Twitter a few days later. \u201cTaylor is terrific!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n In an interview with Yahoo! Politics, when asked what he thought of Swift, Trump said<\/a>, \u201cterrific.\u201d While he hadn\u2019t publicly commented on the singer for years, he had appeared to remain a fan: the previous December, Trump\u2019s wife Melania posted on Facebook<\/a> a video clip of Trump driving his car while Swift\u2019s music was playing on the stereo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Swift grabbed headlines after her first foray into politics<\/a> by endorsing<\/a> Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen, who was running against incumbent Republican Marsha Blackburn, for the U.S. Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump, who was midway into his first term as President, reacted<\/a> to reporters outside the White House: \u201cYou know, Marsha Blackburn is doing a very good job in Tennessee, she\u2019s leading now substantially, which she should. She\u2019s a tremendous woman. I\u2019m sure Taylor Swift doesn\u2019t know anything about her. And let\u2019s say that I like Taylor\u2019s music about 25% less now, OK?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n In an interview with conservative news outlet The Daily Caller, Trump reacted<\/a> to reports of the budding romance<\/a> between Swift and Kelce. \u201cI wish the best for both of them. I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not\u2014most likely not.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n At a rally in Houston, Trump mentioned Swift when discussing the \u201cJustice For All\u201d recording<\/a> of the Star-Spangled Banner by a group of defendants jailed for their alleged involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWhen that came out, it went to the number one song,\u201d Trump said<\/a>. \u201cIt was beating everybody. It beat Taylor Swift, it beat Miley Cyrus, who was number one and two. They were number one and two. We knocked them off for a long time.\u201d (\u201cJustice For All\u201d debuted atop Billboard\u2019s Digital Song Sales Chart<\/a> in March 2023 and also reached No. 1 on iTunes<\/a>.)<\/p>\n At the start of the election year, Trump accused Swift of being \u201cdisloyal\u201d to him if she were to endorse Joe Biden. Swift had not yet announced her endorsement, though she had supported Biden in 2020 and had occasionally publicly criticized Trump<\/a> in the years since.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists,\u201d Trump posted<\/a> on Truth Social. \u201cJoe Biden didn\u2019t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There\u2019s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can\u2019t stand me!\u201d<\/p>\n According to a newly-published excerpt<\/a> of a book by Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh, Trump described Swift as \u201cunusually beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think she\u2019s beautiful\u2014very beautiful!\u201d Trump reportedly told Setoodeh during 2023 interviews for the book. \u201cI find her very beautiful. I think she\u2019s liberal. She probably doesn\u2019t like Trump. I hear she\u2019s very talented\u2026 I think she\u2019s very beautiful, actually\u2014unusually beautiful!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Trump also questioned Swift\u2019s political leanings: \u201cShe is liberal, or is that just an act? \u2026 It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.\u201d<\/p>\n As the election drew nearer, Trump shared<\/a> a handful of AI-generated images that suggested Swift backed his presidential bid and wanted her supporters to too. \u201cI accept!\u201d he posted<\/a> alongside the images.<\/p>\n After Swift made clear<\/a> that she endorsed the Democratic ticket, Trump told Fox & Friends<\/a>, \u201cWell, I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth,\u201d referring to Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Travis Kelce\u2019s Kansas City Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes<\/a>. \u201cShe\u2019s a big Trump fan.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump declared that he was \u201cnot a Taylor Swift fan,\u201d noting that her Harris endorsement was disappointing but not surprising. \u201cShe\u2019s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she\u2019ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Days later, on Truth Social, Trump posted<\/a>: \u201cI HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Swift attended the Super Bowl<\/a> to support Kelce, who was competing for a third consecutive and fourth career NFL championship. Trump was also in attendance and, while he was also backing the Chiefs, who ultimately lost, he appeared to glory in the fact that some Philadelphia Eagles fans booed Swift when she was shown on the jumbotron at the stadium in New Orleans.<\/p>\n Trump shared a video<\/a> of the booing on Truth Social, and he separately posted<\/a>: \u201cThe only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n While hosting the victorious Eagles at the White House in April, Trump mentioned<\/a> Swift again.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an incredible game. A little surprising, but right from the beginning of the first quarter of the big game,\u201d he said, before appearing to depart from his script, \u201cwhich I was there, I watched in person. I was there along with Taylor Swift. How did that work out? How did that one work out?\u201d He then went back to recapping the game: \u201cThe Eagles scored a touchdown on their signature play\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Without any clear prompt, Trump posted<\/a> on Truth Social in May: \u201cHas anyone noticed that, since I said \u2018I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,\u2019 she\u2019s no longer \u2018HOT?\u2019\u201d About the comment, a White House official told CBS News<\/a>: \u201cAs a business and entertainment mogul President Trump is highly qualified to comment on the rise and fall of various celebrities.\u201d<\/p>\n After controversy ignited over an American Eagle ad<\/a> featuring actor Sydney Sweeney<\/a>, whose \u201cgreat jeans\u201d\u2014a seeming wordplay on great genes\u2014sparked social media backlash over alleged racism, Trump weighed in<\/a> with a Truth Social post.\u00a0<\/p>\n The President praised Sweeney, \u201ca registered Republican,\u201d and said American Eagle had \u201cthe \u2018HOTTEST\u2019 ad out there.\u201d He went on to lambast other companies for going \u201cwoke,\u201d which he claimed was bad for business, before offering Swift as an example.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cJust look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,\u201d he said. \u201cEver since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can\u2019t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned \u2014 Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.
