Will I agree with them? Can you really change your youth while you\u2019re living through it, or do those thoughts and feelings only happen when you\u2019re older and looking back?\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tFor Judeline, the new EP has represented a different way of making music. Bodhiria <\/em>was a complex, labyrinthine concept album about toxic love that melded flamenco, joropo, and trap beats, all of it centered on Judeline\u2019s voice. Verano Saudade<\/em> is lighter and more intuitive. \u201cWith Bodhiria, <\/em>we thought things through a million times,\u201d she says. \u201cWith this, we were quick and direct and if we liked something, we went with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\n\tStill, it\u2019s all tied together by her mesmerizing vocal style. So much of that otherworldly sound has attracted new listeners, but none has surprised her as much as Nine Inch Nails reaching out. \u00a0\u201cI did not have that on my bingo card,\u201d she says with a laugh. She hadn\u2019t been a hardcore Nine Inch Nails fan, but she had tons of friends who were. \u201cI knew their work and the magnitude of it and what they\u2019ve meant in film, and the electronic and rock fusions they\u2019ve done,\u201d she says. \u201cI knew the respect their name evokes, but I had never listened extremely in-depth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\n\tA perpetual student, she made sure that changed quickly. \u201cEven though I wasn\u2019t a super close listener, in that moment, and every day since, I became one, and everyday I\u2019ve been more of a fan.\u201d \u00a0She ended up singing on their track \u201cWho Wants to Live Forever?\u201d Listening to the song for the first time reinforced just what a huge moment the whole thing was. \u201cIt\u2019s so clear when you hear the music just what experts they are,\u201d she says. \u201cIt sounded so beautiful and high-quality.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tNow that the EP is out, she\u2019s spending the early part of the year getting ready for some arena shows, including a major performance at Madrid\u2019s Movistar Arena on Feb. 22. And she already has ideas brewing for her next album. \u201cI\u2019m experimenting with more and more melodies and sounds from different cultures, with a lot of respect and admiration,\u201d she shares. \u201cI want to study music from around the world. I want to discover what sounds good to me. I have so much left to learn and study.\u201d<\/p>\n
What else does she feel she wants to do in her youth? \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d she says with a laugh. \u201cI feel that I\u2019ve started to like going home and falling asleep way too early into my twenties. I wish I would have liked partying and staying out late and meeting people more, but I like the feeling of being home in my bed too much.\u201d Still, there\u2019s a lot she\u2019s happy with. \u201cI\u2019m traveling a lot and discovering a lot of the world with amazing people and putting my energy into things I love,\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t regret that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
