The Emmy-nominated anchor is reportedly earning about $10 million in 2026, down from her previous $15 million yearly salary.<\/p>\n \u201cGayle called the shots,\u201d one source told Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, according to<\/a> his Substack. \u201cShe knew exactly what she wanted\u2014less work, less stress, but still the spotlight.\u201d<\/p>\n Another source said the arrangement benefited both sides, with CBS needing to \u201cmake adjustments\u201d and King seeking a more flexible role.<\/p>\n \u201cCBS loves her, but they also needed to make adjustments,\u201d a second insider claimed. \u201cThis was a perfect compromise. She keeps her profile, they cut costs, everyone wins.\u201d<\/p>\n The reports quell speculation about King\u2019s future at CBS amid major staff departures following Bari Weiss\u2019s appointment as CBS News\u2019 new editor-in-chief. In late 2025, CBS Nightly News<\/em> anchor John Dickerson left over editorial independence concerns, with co-anchor Maurice DuBois exiting weeks later. King\u2019s CBS Mornings<\/em> co-host Tony Dokoupil has since taken over the nightly news show to very mixed reviews. <\/p>\n King\u2019s contract was set to expire in May. Amid the Weiss-led shakeup, many expected her to depart as well. But relations between King and Weiss seem smooth after a recent<\/a> \u201clow-key lunch\u201d with the new news chief, with a CBS spokesperson confirming afterward that they \u201cexpect [King] to have a very long future here.\u201d<\/p>\n King avoided <\/a>addressing her future at the network while at the Variety<\/em> Golden Globes Pre-Show on Jan. 11. \u201cWell, I\u2019m certainly not going to make any announcement here,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m not going to, but we will keep you posted.\u201d<\/p>\n King has been a mainstay of CBS\u2019 morning lineup since joining CBS This Morning<\/em> in January 2012, navigating multiple co-anchor shifts and the show\u2019s rebrand to CBS Mornings<\/em>.
