On April 29, 2026, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at
\nDisneyland Park will undergo its most significant evolution since opening in
\n2019. Disneyland is unlocking the land’s carefully controlled timeline,
\ndismantling the sequel-era boundaries that limited Batuu and its inhabitants to
\na narrow period of Star Wars history. The changes will introduce beloved
\nOriginal Trilogy characters, reimagine the land’s soundtrack around John
\nWilliams’ iconic film scores, revise the backstories of key locations
\nthroughout Black Spire Outpost, and open the land to storytelling across new
\neras in the future.<\/p>\n

Significantly, the update applies only to Disneyland in
\nAnaheim. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World in Florida will remain
\nunchanged, meaning that starting this spring, the two near-identical lands on
\nopposite coasts will no longer offer the same guest experience. Here’s a closer
\nlook at the changes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland.<\/p>\n

Batuu’s Broadened Timeline<\/b><\/h2>\n

When Galaxy’s Edge debuted, it was designed to exist
\nentirely within a specific moment in the Star Wars saga, set between The
\nLast Jedi<\/i> and The Rise of Skywalker<\/i>. Guests, referred to in-story as
\n“travelers,” were meant to feel as though they had stepped directly
\ninto a single, unwritten chapter of galactic history \u2014 one whose outcome they
\ncould personally influence during their visit to the remote Outer Rim planet of
\nBatuu.<\/p>\n

While the land’s original end-to-end immersive
\nframework is being substantially loosened, it’s not being collapsed into a
\nsingle blended timeline. Instead, Disneyland is expanding the geographically
\nsegmented approach introduced in 2022 with the arrival of Boba Fett and Fennec
\nShand, followed later by the Mandalorian and Grogu, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla,
\nand Sabine Wren.<\/p>\n

Characters from several eras will now appear across
\ndifferent parts of Galaxy’s Edge, but they won’t be allowed to overlap in ways
\nthat break story logic.<\/p>\n

Original Trilogy Characters and Galactic Civil War
\nLand on Batuu<\/b><\/h2>\n

At long last, the Star Wars galaxy’s most iconic heroes
\nand villains arrive in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on April 29.<\/p>\n

After his limited-time debut in Star Wars: Galaxy’s
\nEdge last year during Disneyland’s Season of the Force, Luke Skywalker will
\nreturn to Batuu as a permanent presence, joined for the first time by Leia
\nOrgana and Han Solo. The newcomers will also meet up with old friends Chewbacca
\nand R2-D2, with the entire group appearing both individually and in varying
\npairs, from Han and Leia, to Luke and R2-D2, to Han and Chewie.<\/p>\n

The Empire’s growing shadow will also reach Black Spire
\nOutpost with the arrival of Darth Vader, accompanied by Imperial Stormtroopers,
\non the hunt for Luke Skywalker. With Vader’s arrival, Kylo Ren and his First
\nOrder Stormtroopers will depart Galaxy’s Edge, and Kylo Ren will replace Vader
\nat the Disney Visa character experience in Tomorrowland.<\/p>\n

Like Kylo Ren, Vader and the Stormtroopers will patrol
\nthe outpost periodically as well as address guests from the stage in front of
\nthe TIE echelon at select times throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Luke will roam the outpost in search of
\nForce knowledge and artifacts, kyber crystals, and lightsaber lore. Luke’s
\nupdated look, the same black costume he wore for his 2025 debut, draws from
\nboth Return of the Jedi<\/i> and The Mandalorian<\/i>. The design team
\nstudied archival imagery and physical costumes, settling on a more refined,
\nJedi Knight\u2013focused appearance that aligns more closely with his look in The
\nMandalorian<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Disneyland gets another princess in Leia, who will wear
\na new costume inspired by her “Adventure” look seen in the 2015
\nMarvel Star Wars: Princess Leia<\/i> comic series and Star Wars
\nBattlefront II<\/i>. Leia can be found near the Millennium Falcon, where she
\nwill be looking for sympathetic recruits to help her protect her brother.<\/p>\n

Han Solo, wearing a new costume inspired by his classic
\nOriginal Trilogy look of light-colored shirt, vest, pants, boots, and holstered
\nblaster, will be keeping one watchful eye on the fastest hunk of junk in the
\ngalaxy, and the other on the door of Oga’s Cantina when he’s feeling thirsty.<\/p>\n

Rey Repositioned, New Republic Maintained<\/b><\/h2>\n

The forested Resistance camp will continue to anchor
\nthe sequel-era “Age of the Resistance” timeline, centered on the
\nland’s marquee attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance<\/i>, along with
\nappearances by Rey, Chewbacca, and R2-D2. Disney has confirmed that the ride
\nwill remain unchanged.<\/p>\n

Rey’s continued presence aligns with Lucasfilm’s plans
\nto extend her story beyond The Rise of Skywalker<\/i>, with a new feature
\nfilm in the works that will follow her efforts to build a new Jedi Order.<\/p>\n

Ahsoka Tano, Din Djarin, and Grogu will continue to
\nappear in and around the Marketplace, preserving Batuu’s New Republic\u2013era
\nstorytelling and avoiding any overlap with other timelines in the land. All
\nthree characters have major on-screen stories arriving in 2026, with Ahsoka<\/i>
\nreturning for a second season on Disney+ and The Mandalorian and Grogu <\/i>debuting
\nas a feature film on May 22.<\/p>\n

R2-D2 and Chewbacca will continue to appear near the
\nMillennium Falcon and Droid Depot. Disney has confirmed there are no story
\nchanges planned for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance<\/i> as part of this
\nupdate.<\/p>\n

From Soundscape to Score: John Williams’ Music Takes
\nOver Batuu<\/b><\/h2>\n

One of the most noticeable changes to Galaxy’s Edge at
\nDisneyland will be heard rather than seen.<\/p>\n

When Galaxy’s Edge opened, John Williams’ iconic music
\nwas used only selectively, primarily in attractions, Savi’s Workshop, and Oga’s
\nCantina, while the broader land relied on ambient sound design. Hundreds of
\nenvironmental audio elements, from creature noises to distant ships and
\nin-universe broadcasts, created the feeling of a living place without relying
\non familiar themes.<\/p>\n

Beginning April 29, a fully reimagined score will
\ndebut, filling the land with John Williams’ iconic musical motifs from across
\nthe saga. The music will start at the land’s entrances with the “Main
\nTitle” and “Force Theme,” and continue throughout the land in
\nselections from classics including “Han Solo and the Princess,”
\n“The Desert and the Robot Auction,” and “The Emperor.”
\nPassersby will hear “Cantina Band” emanating from Oga’s Cantina, where
\nDJ R3X will continue dropping tracks from his playlist.<\/p>\n

New Backstories Take Shape in Shops and Spaces
\nAcross Black Spire Outpost<\/b><\/h2>\n

To support Batuu’s expanded scope, several locations
\naround Black Spire Outpost will quietly adopt new narrative framing.<\/p>\n

First Order Cargo will become Black Spire Surplus, a
\nmilitary salvage operation run by two retired clone troopers. The brothers
\nfought together during the Clone Wars before later landing on opposite sides of
\nthe conflict against the Empire. Reunited in retirement, they draw on their
\nwartime experience to identify and trade in salvaged military gear, filling the
\nshop with artifacts and equipment from across eras and factions, from Imperial
\nto Rebel, and beyond.<\/p>\n

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will rotate new relics
\nand curiosities tied to different periods in Star Wars history, with new props
\nappearing from recent Disney+ series.<\/p>\n

Droid Depot will be operated by an earlier generation
\nof the Mubo family, currently experimenting with the early prototypes of
\nBB-unit droid designs while preserving the core build-your-own experience.<\/p>\n

Oga’s Cantina will reflect the nascent phase of Oga
\nGarra’s rise to power. Having just recently arrived in the village, her
\ninfluence over the outpost is still taking shape.<\/p>\n

Brush Up on the New Backstories Before Your First
\nVisit<\/b><\/h2>\n

A new Marvel Comics series, Star Wars: Echoes of the
\nEmpire<\/i>, launching April 22, will provide additional narrative context for
\nthe characters on Batuu and their places within the land’s expanded timeline.<\/p>\n

Smugglers Run Update Launches in May<\/b><\/h2>\n

While most changes debut on April 29, one major update
\nfollows a few weeks later.<\/p>\n

On May 22, 2026, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run<\/i>
\nwill launch a new Mandalorian and Grogu mission, timed to the release of The
\nMandalorian and Grogu<\/i> film. The updated storyline sends crews after a
\nbounty uncovered by Hondo Ohnaka on Tatooine, triggering a chase involving
\nex-Imperials, pirates, and Din Djarin and Grogu.<\/p>\n

After departing Batuu for Tatooine, flight crews will
\nchoose their next destination \u2014 Endor, Bespin, or Coruscant. The Engineer role
\nwill take on expanded responsibilities, including interacting with and caring
\nfor Grogu during the mission.<\/p>\n

Normal operation of the ride is expected to continue
\nfrom April 29 to May 22, when the new version debuts.<\/p>\n

A Different Galaxy on Each Coast<\/b><\/h2>\n

The forthcoming changes to Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge
\nbuild on several differences that already set Disneyland’s Batuu apart. These
\ninclude nighttime shows, Fire of the Rising Moons<\/i> and Shadows of
\nMemory: A Skywalker Saga<\/i>, a broader slate of roaming characters, and
\nexpanded and more frequently changing food and beverage options. Outside Star
\nWars: Galaxy’s Edge, the seasonal Star Wars-themed Space Mountain Overlay,
\nHyperspace Mountain, is a must-do for Star Wars fans and returns to
\nTomorrowland in Disneyland Park for a limited time, April 28.<\/p>\n\n
