There has been a lot of debate about the decline in music education in schools in the UK. The current government has made the right noises about reversing it, but now Universal Music Group is also getting involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has launched the pilot of \u2018Sound Generation\u2019, a new music-education scheme that will initially be tested in primary schools in the London borough of Camden, before expanding nationwide later in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a set of free digital resources for teachers to use in classrooms, whether or not they\u2019re qualified music teachers., to help children explore \u201cthe diverse range of skills needed across music creation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

UMG is working with school-led partnership Camden Music Service on the pilot, and that it was inspired by the\u00a0pioneering music curriculum built by Feversham Primary Academy in Bradford<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While this is UK-focused for now, UMG\u2019s announcement this morning described \u2018Sound Generation\u2019 as a \u201cglobal education initiative\u201d, so clearly there is scope for it to launch elsewhere in the world if the pilot goes well.<\/p>\n
