Studios and FilmRise, has obtained full ownership over the \u201cMystery Science Theater 3000\u201d brand from creator Joel Hodgson\u2019s Alternaversal.<\/p>\n \u201cMST3K\u201d had been jointly owned by Alternaversal and Shout! Studios since late 2015. Radial\u2019s purchase includes all brand assets and intellectual property and follows nearly two decades of Shout!\u2019s multichannel distribution of \u201cMST3K\u201d content. The amount of the final buyout was undisclosed.<\/p>\n Since its national debut in 1989, the long-running \u201cMST3K\u201d series involves a man trapped on a space station with a group of robots who are tasked with watching and commenting on bad movies. Through various cast changes over the years, the series has run for 230 episodes across 14 seasons, plus a feature film.<\/p>\n Since forming their partnership, Shout! and Alternaversal have spearheaded a variety of successful \u201cMST3K\u201d initiatives, including a three-season revival of the series (two of which debuted on Netflix), two crowdfunding campaigns, several national live tours, and the \u201cMST3K\u201d FAST channel.<\/p>\n \u201cMystery Science Theater 3000<\/em> is a hugely influential comedy series that continues to gain fans with each new generation,\u201d said Michael Ribas, SVP of marketing and product management at Shout! Studios. \u201cAs fans ourselves, we\u2019re eager to continue developing growth opportunities for \u2018MST3K\u2019 and look forward to taking the Satellite of Love into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n Radial\u2019s long-term growth strategy for \u201cMST3K\u201d includes new content development, merchandise licensing, and content syndication to international territories. Hodgson will remain involved with the property as brand ambassador and consultant.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been incredibly lucky to spend my adult life making a living as an entertainer, and \u2018MST3K\u2019 has been a big part of it,\u201d Hodgson said. \u201cCreating your own comedic art form like \u2018MST3K\u2019 is deeply fulfilling and fun \u2014 but that doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m required to work on it every day for the rest of my life.
