The new arrangement won\u2019t come into full effect until early 2029, but it\u2019ll start later in 2026 as individual territory rights become available. As part of this pact, Netflix will also license rights to select SPE feature film and television library titles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe financial terms of the agreement are not being disclosed, but sources suggest it is worth above $7 billion, by all appearances the largest-ever Pay-1 deal. Netflix and Sony\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/08\/business\/sony-netflix-streaming-deal.html\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/08\/business\/sony-netflix-streaming-deal.html\" target=\"_blank\">initial five-year deal for domestic rights<\/a> was worth $2.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cOur members all over the world love movies and giving them exclusive access to Sony\u2019s much loved films adds incredible value to their subscriptions,\u201d said Lauren Smith, Netflix\u2019s VP of licensing and programming strategy. \u201cSony\u2019s impressive slate of iconic film franchises like\u00a0\u2018Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse\u2019\u00a0and originals like\u00a0\u2018Anyone but You\u2019\u00a0have been popular with our U.S. audience and now we\u2019re excited to expand that offering to our members all around the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSony Pictures Television\u2019s executive VP of global distribution Paul Littmann praised the studio\u2019s partnership with Netflix as one that\u2019s \u201cincredibly valuable.\u201d \u201cUncharted,\u201d \u201cSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,\u201d \u201cIt Ends With Us\u201d and \u201cAnyone But You\u201d are some recent Sony films that got a boost in attention after dropping on Netflix. As for upcoming releases, Sony has \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d sequels to \u201cThe Social Network\u201d and \u201cJumanji,\u201d \u201cSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,\u201d and the Sam Mendes quartet of \u201cBeatles\u201d films on the calendar for 2026 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThis new Pay-1 deal takes that partnership to the next level and reinforces the enduring appeal of our theatrical releases to Netflix\u2019s global audience,\u201d Littmann said. \u201cIt also further underscores the strength of our independence and unique ability to create meaningful opportunities that benefit our creative stakeholders, consumers, and world-class partners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNetflix, the world\u2019s largest streaming service, might get even bigger. The tech behemoth currently has an agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery worth $82.7 billion to acquire the Warner Bros. film and television studios, HBO and HBO Max, and its games division.
