Starting out, Elordi seemed destined to play standard-issue beefcake \u2013 such as in his debut in the hit 2018 Netflix teen-flick, The Kissing Booth<\/i>. However, in his next role, he lent startling substance to Nate, the jock anti-hero, in Euphoria<\/i>, Sam Levinson\u2019s nihilistic series about California high schoolers (returning to Sky Atlantic in April).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Elordi made another astute choice in returning to Australia for the relatively low-budget, critically acclaimed series, The Narrow Road to the Deep North<\/i> (which aired on BBC1 in the UK). Based on Richard Flanagan\u2019s novel \u2013which won the Booker Prize in 2014 \u2013 it was directed by fellow Australian, Justin Kurzel (Snowtown; The Order<\/i>). Elordi portrays a second world war prisoner of the Japanese, stationed on the deadly Burma railway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Kurzel tells me that, during filming, he was struck by Elordi\u2019s \u201ccinematic presence \u2013 the old-style movie star quality he has. Australia is very good at producing masculine, charismatic actors \u2013 Jacob has that, but there\u2019s also something sophisticated about him.\u201d The director adds, \u201cHe\u2019s not interested in being famous. Flanagan tells me he noted an unusual quality \u2013 \u201cAn inner solitude\u201d about Elordi. \u201cJacob wants to make work that will stand up in 20, 50 years\u201d he says. \u201cHe\u2019s got an ambition as an artist, which is not so common these days. He believes that acting is something worth aspiring to, that there\u2019s some greater goal there. I think art is what results when you risk your life. Elordi had a loving, supportive working class upbringing in Brisbane, with a stay-at-home mother, and a house-painter father. Although Elordi now lives in Los Angeles, Wong feels that his normal background significantly adds to his appeal: \u201cWe don\u2019t know a ton about him. Pursuing sport and acting at school, Elordi revered screen legends such as Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Daniel Day-Lewis. He\u2019s recently rumoured to have reunited with longtime partner, social media influencer, Olivia Jade Giannulli. Past relationships \u2013 including Zendaya, his co-star from Euphoria,<\/i> and Cindy Crawford\u2019s daughter, the model Kaia Gerber \u2013 have been kept low profile. In a recent incident at the Gare de Nord station in Paris, a paparazzi cried: \u201cJacob, we love you!\u201d, and he replied \u201cI don\u2019t love you.
