The king of Spain, Felipe VI, along with his wife Letizia\u00a0and two daughters, Crown Princess Leonor and Princess Infanta Sofia, will attend the funeral of the late Princess Irene in Athens on Monday.<\/p>\n
The exodios funeral service, as it is called in the Greek Orthodox Church, will take place at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral in the city\u2019s center.<\/p>\n
Several other European royals, notably from Denmark, are also due to attend.
The British royal family will reportedly be represented by Vice Adm. Sir Timothy James Hamilton Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne, as well as Lady Gabriella Kingston.<\/p>\n
Conversely, reports on Friday have the former Spanish monarch, Juan Carlos, 88, as being unable to attend due to health reasons. He currently lives in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n
The body of Princess Irene will be interred at the Tatoi graveyard due north of Athens, where her parents and older brother, former king of Greece Constantine, are buried.<\/p>\n
Irene\u2019s body will lie in state for a few hours on Saturday at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Andrew and Demetrius in Madrid.<\/p>\n
She died on Thursday at the age of 83 at the Zarzouela Palace in Madrid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
