{"id":2238975,"date":"2026-01-17T18:09:05","date_gmt":"2026-01-17T18:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2238975"},"modified":"2026-01-17T18:09:05","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T18:09:05","slug":"shannen-dohertys-ex-challenges-divorce-settlement-2-years-after-stars-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/shannen-dohertys-ex-challenges-divorce-settlement-2-years-after-stars-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Shannen Doherty&#8217;s ex challenges divorce settlement 2 years after star&#8217;s death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Shannen Doherty\u2019s ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, is seeking to block the court\u2019s ruling for a substitution of a trustee in the actress\u2019 trust.<\/p>\n<p>Iswarienko filed legal docs with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, citing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/07\/14\/celebrity-news\/shannen-doherty-dead-at-53-after-cancer-battle\/\">Doherty\u2019s death<\/a> and the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/07\/15\/entertainment\/shannen-doherty-settled-kurt-iswarienko-divorce-1-day-before-death\/\">couple\u2019s 2024 divorce<\/a> as the reason why the court \u201clacks jurisdiction\u201d in the matter, per court documents obtained by Page Six. <\/p>\n<p>According to the filing, Iswarienko argued that his and Doherty\u2019s divorce should not have received an official judgement from the courts due to Doherty\u2019s death on July 13, 2024 \u2014 which means, the court should also be unable to make a ruling on the substitution. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Shannen Doherty\u2019s ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, is looking to block a change in trustee in Shannen Doherty\u2019s estate.   <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The photographer cited their divorce and Doherty\u2019s 2024 death from breast cancer in his legal filing.  <span class=\"credit\">Instagram \/ @theshando<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>He also claims that the trustee of the Shannen Doherty family estate, Christopher Cortazzo, has not adequately shown that he has been granted the authority by the trust to introduce the motion to the court in the first place. <\/p>\n<p>Cortazzo filed documents on Nov. 24 seeking to become the successor in interest to the \u201cCharmed\u201d star\u2019s estate in order to push the judgement between her and Iswarienko. <\/p>\n<p>In the filing, Cortazzo accused Iswarienko of not following through on the couple\u2019s divorce agreement in which he agreed to list their $1.5 million home in Dripping Springs, Texas \u2014 which they shared until an unspecified date. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The move comes after Doherty\u2019s estate accused Iswarienko of not following through on their divorce agreement, which was signed on July 13, 2024.  <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>They accused the photographer of not selling the couple\u2019s $1.5 million Texas home as agreed and of withholding $50,000 owed to the estate.  <span class=\"credit\">Instagram \/ @theshando<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The estate also reportedly accused Doherty\u2019s ex of failing to return Doherty\u2019s property and withholding over $50,000 that he allegedly owes the estate.<\/p>\n<p>Doherty and Iswarienko\u2019s divorce deal was signed on July 13, just hours before the actress died at age 53 following a nine-year battle with breast cancer that had spread to her brain and bones.<\/p>\n<p>On July 15, a judge officially declared the couple divorced. <\/p>\n<p>A rep for Doherty\u2019s estate did not immediately respond to Page Six\u2019s request for comment. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Doherty died on July 13, 2024, just hours after she and Iswarienko signed the divorce docs. A judge later signed off on the agreement on July 15. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sources previously told Page Six that she fought until the end for her divorce from Iswarienko because she worried he would be able to take over her million-dollar estate. <span class=\"credit\">theshando\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As we previously reported, the \u201cBeverly Hills, 90210\u201d star <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/07\/20\/entertainment\/shannen-doherty-fought-to-the-end-to-get-out-of-her-marriage\/\">fought until the end of her life<\/a> to end her marriage with Iswarienko because she feared that the photographer \u2014 whom the actress claimed had cheated on her \u2014 would be eligible to take over her multimillion-dollar fortune, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew that it was really bad,\u201d one friend of Doherty\u2019s told Page Six at the time of her diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe fought so hard, and it\u2019s so unfair \u2026 Shannon died before the divorce could be rubber-stamped in the courts.
