Gavin Newsom\u2019s massive tax incentives for Hollywood, a new report found.<\/p>\n<p>Spending on big and small screen productions also fell 22% year-over-year, according to an analysis\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/business\/business-news\/new-jersey-illinois-film-tv-production-california-1236477687\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">by The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The slump came even after <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/15\/us-news\/gavin-newsom-backtracks-on-outrageous-ice-claims-made-by-his-own-team-in-shapiro-interview\/\">Democrat Newsom<\/a> signed legislation doubling California\u2019s film and TV tax credit program from $330 million to $750 million annually, in an effort to keep such projects local.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, rival states are cashing in.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>New York had a 31% jump in film and TV production as Hollywood increasingly looked elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>In <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/02\/business\/part-of-the-tri-state-area-could-become-a-top-film-destination\/\">New Jersey, filming surged 75%<\/a> in the fourth quarter and production spending rose 12%, fueled by generous tax breaks and new studio developments.
