Kate Hudson<\/a> is looking back at the \u201cflattering\u201d letters that Daniel Day-Lewis<\/a> sent to her while they were shooting their movie musical, Nine<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n On a recent episode of Entertainment Weekly<\/em>\u2019s Awardist podcast, the actress and singer told host Gerrad Hall that Day-Lewis would pen her little love notes from the perspective of his character, Italian film director Guido Contini.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI got letters,\u201d Hudson revealed. \u201cHe used to write me letters \u2014 and as Guido. And I\u2019d show up to my dressing room with a letter from Guido Contini. And I’d read a flattering letter and I was like, \u2018Ugh, this is so much fun.\u2019 I loved Daniel Day-Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n David James\/Weinstein Company\/Courtesy Everett <\/p>\n Kate Hudson in ‘Nine’<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n The Almost Famous <\/em>star noted that she still has all of Day-Lewis\u2019 letters to this day.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, it\u2019s, all of it, a dream,\u201d Hudson said of the project. \u201cYou got [director] Rob Marshall, and then Daniel Day-Lewis [going] Method, you know, sending notes. Oh, an experience.\u201d<\/p>\n Loosely based on the musical of the same name, Nine<\/em> follows famous director Guido Contini (Day-Lewis) as he battles writer\u2019s block by remembering all of the women in his life. Hudson starred as Stephanie Necrophorus, a fashion journalist who caught Contini\u2019s eye, in the film.<\/p>\n In addition to Day-Lewis and Hudson, Nine<\/em> also starred Marion Cotillard, Pen\u00e9lope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Fergie, and more.<\/p>\n The film received four Academy Award nominations, with Cruz earning a nod for Best Supporting Actress. The biopic tells the story of real-life couple Mike (Hugh Jackman) and Claire Sardina (Hudson), who performed as part of a Neil Diamond tribute act called “Lightning & Thunder.”<\/p>\n Hudson explained on The Awardist <\/em>that she and Jackman\u2019s vocals featured in the film were all \u201cpretty much live.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, \u201cIt felt like we were in our pocket, and that’s always a good feeling. But it kind of felt that way throughout the movie. I think Hugh and I really understood these characters and really understood what drove them and could relate to it. And then at the same time, loved this story of these people. So then we felt that responsibility to get it right.”<\/p>\n<\/div>
