It is set for release on March 27 via Matador, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/snailmail.mat-r.co\/ricochet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visit here to pre-order<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It also marks Jordan\u2019s first new album in five years, and according to a press release \u201ccarries a new sense of clarity, control and maturity throughout compared to her earlier releases\u201d. While past songs captured the \u201cuncertainty of young love\u201d, this release will take a \u201cdeeper approach \u2013 centring on themes of time, mortality, and loss\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The first taste of the 11-track album is released today (January 21), and is the intoxicating, grunge-inspired \u2018Dead End\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Opening with a swirling, hard-hitting guitar riff, the song pairs a gritty instrumental undertone with shimmering vocals from the singer. \u201c<em>Woke up thinking about you \/ Tried calling but I couldn\u2019t get through \/ Guess we got our own shit to do \/ But these days I don\u2019t recognise you,<\/em>\u201d she sings, leading to the explosive chorus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Hours we\u2019d spend \/ Parked at the dead end \/ You\u2019re burned in my heart, old friend \/ Tell me, can\u2019t you even look me in my eyes?<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Snail Mail - &quot;Dead End&quot;\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AgCTkQdArwk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>As for the album as a whole, Snail Mail wrote it during a period of personal change, including moving from New York City to North Carolina, and reckoning with questions she once avoided, namely what comes after death.<\/p>\n<p>Musically, she channels the more uplifting aspects of \u201890s alt-rock, with subtle nods to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/smashing-pumpkins\">Smashing Pumpkins<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/radiohead\">Radiohead<\/a>, Catherine Wheel and Ivy.<\/p>\n<p>It also arrives following Jordan undergoing surgery for vocal polyps and intensive speech therapy ahead of 2021\u2019s \u2018<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/snail-mail-valentine-album-review-3085290\">Valentine<\/a>\u2019 tour, and overcoming the obstacle leading to her feeling more \u201crefreshing, trusting, and comfortable\u201d in her voice from then on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never done this before, but I wrote all of the instrumentals and vocal melodies on the piano or guitar, and then I filled in the lyrics all at once over a year,\u201d she said, adding that the shift gave her more time to craft expansive melodies.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DTvLcrklaD7\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Later this year, Snail Mail will make her return to the UK and play a live show at the Electric Ballroom in London on June 26, she has also shared details of a North American tour set to start in Spring.
