Kaia Gerber<\/a> is making her way on the runway and on the screen, with upcoming projects such as the Ryan Murphy-led TV adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis\u2019s The Shards<\/em>, and the film Mother Mary<\/em>. It\u2019s not a surprising career path for the 24-year-old, who grew up with Cindy Crawford<\/a> as her mother.<\/p>\n

While Crawford is most known for her legendary modeling career<\/a>, she also dipped into acting, appearing in the 1995 action-thriller Fair Game<\/em>, the 1998 drama 54<\/em>, and the 2001 comedy The Simian Line<\/em>. Now, her only daughter<\/a> is following in the same fashion-to-film arc.<\/p>\n

In her new Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/em> cover story<\/a>, Gerber says that being surrounded by her mom\u2019s success had a positive effect on her\u2014even when signs of that success included seeing nude images of her mother lining the walls of her family home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were, to me, artistic,\u201d Gerber says of the photos. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t vulgar; it wasn\u2019t objectification.\u201d In fact, Gerber says it was \u201ca gift to grow up in a house that was without shame for the female body.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gerber began seriously modeling when she was just 15, at which point she switched from attending public school to being homeschooled in order to accommodate her modeling schedule.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s undeniable that Crawford\u2019s influence, connections, and famous bone structure\u2014which she passed on to her daughter\u2014were all factors that helped Gerber enter and succeed in the modeling world, Gerber notes that she\u2019s long been independent, and her mom \u201cdoesn\u2019t give out advice unless you ask.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut if you ask, get ready, because she\u2019ll be very honest in ways that, sometimes, it\u2019s hard to hear,\u201d Gerber continues. \u201cShe\u2019s usually right, which is infuriating, but she\u2019s also very willing to let me make a mistake that she made 30 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
