Princess Desiree, one of the older sisters of King Carl XVI
\nGustaf of Sweden, has died.<\/p>\n
The princess was 87 years old and passed away peacefully.<\/p>\n
Desiree was one of four older sisters of King Carl Gustaf but,
\nbecause of the succession laws at the time of her birth, she was
\nnever in line to Sweden\u2019s throne.<\/p>\n
She was often seen at big family events and also joined Sweden\u2019s
\nroyals at ceremonies including the Nobel Prize presentations.<\/p>\n
Desiree Elisabeth Sybilla was born on June 2 1938 at the Haga
\nPalace in Sweden, the third daughter of Gustaf Adolf of Sweden and
\nhis wife, Sybilla. She married Baron Niclas Silfverschold in 1964,
\nlosing her HRH as her husband didn\u2019t hold a royal rank.. They had
\nthree children together. Baron Silfverschold died in 2017.<\/p>\n
King Carl Gustaf issued a statement following the news of his
\nsister\u2019s death, saying he had heard the news \u201dwith great
\nsadness\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a poignant recollection, Sweden\u2019s king said \u201dthere are many
\nwarm memories created at the Silfverschold family home in
\nVastergotland, a place in Sweden that came to mean a lot to my
\nsister.\u201d<\/p>\n
Princess Desiree is the second of the \u201dHaga princesses\u201d to die.
\nShe and her three sisters got the nickname from the palace in which
\nthey grew up. Another sister, Princess Birgitta, died in December
\n2024.<\/p>\n
Carl Gustaf was the youngest of the five children born to Crown
\nPrince Gustaf Adolf and Crown Princess Sybilla. He was just nine
\nmonths old when his father was killed in an air accident and he was
\nthe only one of his siblings to ever hold succession rights.<\/p>\n
Sweden\u2019s royals have opened a book of condolence for Desiree and
\ndetails of her funeral will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n
