Guitarist Gregory Uhlmann is one of those musicians who has worked with everybody. Besides co-leading the great LA experimental jazz combo SML, he’s made records with the likes of Meg Duffy and Dustin Wong. He maintains a trio with saxophonist Josh Johnson and bassist Sam Wilkes. He’s been part of the touring band for Duffy’s band Hand Habits and Perfume Genius. <\/p>\n

Extra Stars<\/em>, Uhlmann’s new album dropping in March, features another exciting list of collaborators. His SML bandmates Johnson, Jeremiah Chiu, Booker Stardrum, and Anna Butterss<\/a> are all on there, as is International Anthem label-mate Alabaster DePlume, whose unmistakable trembling saxophone tone graces lead single “Lucia.” It”s the kind of melancholic near-instrumental you might find buried deep on a Blur or Yo La Tengo album, and I think you’ll quite like it when you listen below.<\/p>\n
