What doesn’t that mean? If I’m attacking all his fans that e no go better for anybody wey dey Wizkid FC and Wizkid has not said anything. I’m insulting and cursing you people and Wizkid has done nothing to protect you, what does that mean? Doesn’t that mean he doesn’t care about you, Wizkid FC?”

Following this, Netizens accused Seun of indirectly attacking Wizkid and not his fans as he claimed.

Finally reacting to him in solidarity with his fans, Wizkid, who is a known fan of Fela Kuti, however, made a U-turn and declared that he is bigger than the late legendary.

While daring Seun to do his worst, Wizkid questioned his achievement aside from his father’s legacy “Fela fight for freedom, this fool dey fight FC! Oloshi Omo ale.”

Wizkid’s response escalated the fight as Seun and his siblings came out to insult Wizkid’s parents and fans.

The debate, which revolves around Fela’s legacy and influence on modern Nigerian music, has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerian celebrities, including politicians.

Debating the matter, Comedian Edo Pikin, in an Instagram video, claimed that Wizkid songs are for entertainment, which can’t be used to measure greatness.

“Yes, Wizkid is a great artiste and baba Fela na legend. But we must understand that history does not measure greatness with sound. History measures greatness with impact. But then again, the legend we’re talking about here did not merely sing, he stood in fire. His songs were weapons formed against oppression and aimed at injustice in society.

“The legend (Fela) we’re talking about here paid for his music with bans, jail terms, incarceration, beating, and even to death. When he sang, the government trembled, when he spoke the society listening. His voice did not chase applause. His voice challenges power. So, let’s not confuse relevance for revolution, let us not confuse streams for relevance”, Edo Pikin said.

On his part, a popular gospel singer, Testimony Jaga who tagged Fela as a bad influence to the society, blasted Seun Kuti for insulting pastor Adeboye a few days ago, but got angry when people insulted his father.

Testimony in a video on his Instagram page, said “Now they are abusing your father and you are angry. When you were abusing baba Adeboye, why can’t his own children or all Redeem members come for you? Let’s even talk about this, who is Fela? I was a big fan of Fela. I sang, behaved and dressed like Fela in the past. See my picture, wearing pants, this Testimony Jaga that all of you love today for blessing all of you with great music because I was saved by Jesus Christ of Nasarret. This is what this man could have turned me to be. Is that the legacy that you are talking about here today? Is that the impact or influence you are talking about?

“I have many friends that their lives have been destroyed today because they come to Fela’s shrine everytime to smoke. Do you know how many people have died coming from shrine every Friday? Can we talk about that? But you know what? I’m not here to attack you but if you disrespect an elder, your elders will also be disrespected. You have not seen anything except you repent. There is more disgrace coming”, the gospel singer said.

Popular Nigerian influencer, Esabod wrote on Instagram “I think Seun shouldn’t drag the great Fela’s name into a personal fight. Fela isn’t just your father. He’s a father to millions of Nigerians and the godfather of Afrobeat. But when you start bragging, “My father is bigger than everybody’s father,” don’t be surprised if someone replies, “My father is bigger than your father too.”
Remember, Wizkid is a father to many in this game too. Let the legend rest. Abami Eda lives forever.”

Comedian Funnybone wrote on Instagram; “Understanding the power of silence and the deliberate use of few words is a strength in itself. Excessive talk and overanalysis often dilute, and at times diminish, the significance of the gatekeeper to the legacy. True influence is not measured by how much is said, but by what is preserved through restraint.”

Disagreeing with the opinions that Fela is greater than Wizkid, popular influencer and commentator, Tosin Silverdam in an Instagram video said; “If we’re being honest, Wizkid is bigger than Fela because Wizkid is the biggest Nigerian artiste ever with over 10 billion streams on Spotify alone. So, I don’t understand the way Seun Kuti has been attacking Wizkid unprovoked is too much.”

Also criticising Seun for dragging his father’s name to the mud, Cubana Priest wrote on X ” If Fela do DNA now, that boy fit no be him pikin.”

Other celebrities who engaged in the debate includes singer Portable, and Daddy Freeze among others.

‘ The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties ’

‘ Some details of this article were extracted from the following source dailypost.ng ’

The ongoing heated exchange between Singer Wizkid and Seun Kuti over the late Afrobeat founder, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s legacy and influence has divided Nigerian celebrities.
