It will make sure future governments always have the prison places needed to keep people safe, with the most dangerous offenders locked up and tough community restrictions meaning those\u00a0released from prison enter a period of\u00a0supervision\u00a0tailored to their risk and the type of crime they committed.\u00a0This\u00a0includes\u00a0the biggest ever expansion in tagging\u202fand the use of restriction zones to better protect victims.\u202f\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The most serious offenders &#8211; those on life\u00a0sentences, IPP, and extended\u202fdeterminate\u00a0sentences\u00a0&#8211; will not be\u00a0released any earlier than\u00a0they are now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alongside this, the probation budget will be increased by up to \u00a3700 million over the next three years\u00a0to\u00a0bolster\u00a0community justice, including the probation service\u2019s\u00a0resource and ability to tag offenders. The government is also\u00a0investing in\u00a0new technology\u00a0to reduce admin so staff can focus on work that reduces reoffending.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on\u00a0Royal Assent,\u00a0Sentencing Minister Jake Richards said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This\u00a0government inherited\u00a0a prison system\u00a0bursting at the seams and at breaking point\u00a0\u2013 risking the total breakdown of law and order in this country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Urgent, bold action was needed to keep the public safe.
