Explore Books hosts \u201cThe Hippie, the Cowboy, and the Novelist,\u201d an evening of stories and local history from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 26. Amy Honey from the Aspen Historical Society will moderate a panel with local authors Jill Sheeley, Tony Vagneur, and T.A. (Tom) Stevens. The event celebrates the Aspen Historical Society\u2019s featured shelf at Explore Books this month. The authors will share their writing journeys and snippets about their lives in Aspen. Sheeley will discuss her memoir \u201cThose Were the Days.\u201d Vagneur will talk about his book \u201cAspen: Then and Now: Reflections of a Native Son,\u201d and Steven will share his information about his new work, \u201cIda Chatfield: Aspen\u2019s Oldest Unsolved Mystery.\u201d Books will be available to buy and sign. \u201cChangemaker Series: Bryan Smith Capturing the Impossible\u201d runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Wheeler Opera House, located at 320 E. Hyman Ave. From humble beginnings to becoming a filmmaker for National Geographic, Smith pursues authentic storytelling while tackling extreme conditions. His film \u201c49 Megawatts\u201d told the story of a community fighting a hydroelectric project on British Columbia\u2019s Ashlu River, which led to a National Geographic\u2019s Expedition Council to lead a team of kayakers into Russia\u2019s Kamchatka Peninsula. He later directed \u201cThe Man Who Can Fly\u201d for National Geographic. He runs Reel Water Productions out of Squamish, British Columbia.
