Blake Lively<\/strong> <\/a>addressed the controversy surrounding her 2012 wedding venue during her It Ends With Us <\/i>legal deposition.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m used to it after this many years in the industry,\u201d Lively, 38, said during her July 2025 deposition, according to a transcript viewed by Us Weekly. <\/i>\u201cIt\u2019s not something I\u2019ve had to deal with often.\u201d<\/p>\n Lively was questioned by Justin Baldoni<\/strong>\u2019s attorney Bryan Freedman<\/strong> amid her lawsuit. (Lively sued Baldoni, 41, in December 2024<\/a> for sexual harassment and trying to destroy her reputation on the set of their joint movie, It Ends With Us. <\/i>Baldoni vehemently denied the allegations.)<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s true that you dealt with negative press with respect to being married on a plantation during, kind of, the height of Black Lives Matter; is that right?\u201d Freedman further asked Lively during her testimony, referring to the Gossip Girl <\/i>alum\u2019s wedding to Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like that negative press was deserved,\u201d Lively acknowledged at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s a mistake we have publicly acknowledged and done a lot of work to reconcile for ourselves and others.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued, \u201cI take full accountability for that decision, as does my husband, but I don\u2019t know what weaponization of the past has been a part of [Baldoni\u2019s alleged smear] campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n Lively and Reynolds, 49, tied the knot at Boone Hall <\/a>in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, which was also where 2004\u2019s The Notebook <\/i>was filmed. The ceremony venue soon garnered widespread backlash due to the site\u2019s former association as a plantation. The pair, who started dating in 2011, later publicly apologized for the oversight.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s something we\u2019ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for,\u201d Reynolds told Fast Company <\/i>in a 2020 profile<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s impossible to reconcile.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the Deadpool <\/i>star, he and Lively found Boone Hall while searching for \u201ca wedding venue on Pinterest\u201d without looking into its history before putting a deposit down.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat we saw after [the wedding] was a place built upon devastating tragedy,\u201d Reynolds recalled to the outlet.<\/i> \u201cYears ago we got married again at home \u2014 but shame works in weird ways. A giant f***ing mistake like that can either cause you to shut down or it can reframe things and move you into action. It doesn\u2019t mean you won\u2019t f*** up again, but repatterning and challenging lifelong social conditioning is a job that doesn\u2019t end.\u201d<\/p>\n
