Saturday Night Live<\/a><\/em>\u2018s\u2019 cold open was labeled \u201ctone deaf\u201d by viewers amid the ongoing Minneapolis ICE violence and in the wake of federal agents fatally shooting Alex Pretti<\/a>.<\/p>\n On Saturday, January 25, the SNL<\/em> cold open featured James Austin Johnson<\/a> reprising his role as President Donald Trump<\/a> as a host, presenter, and winner at the \u201cTrump Awards<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s truly an honor to be here hosting the Trumps,\u201d the POTUS declared at the beginning of the segment. \u201cAfter that lady, whose name I already forget, gave me her Nobel Peace Prize, I thought, \u2018I need more awards.’\u201d<\/p>\n Trump added, \u201cAnd after what all of my little freaks and psychos in ICE have been doing, I need more distractions. Look! Everything\u2019s gold and shiny.\u201d<\/p>\n On Reddit<\/a>, many viewers slammed the NBC sketch comedy series for not addressing the increasingly aggressive ICE presence in Minnesota. Some also criticized host Teanna Taylor\u2019s SNL<\/em> monologue<\/a>, which also failed to mention the deaths of Pretti and Renee Nicole Good.<\/p>\n \u201cI get that SNL<\/em> has many moving parts, but after today\u2019s news, I just feel like they made some really bad choices,\u201d one Redditor wrote. \u201cStarting with another Trump Cold Open filled with ICE jokes and them immediately starting a monologue bragging about how wealthy you are, flaunting an expensive birthday party and expensive house in Miami is just so incredibly tone-deaf and egotistical.\u201d<\/p>\n
