Jennifer Aniston<\/a> often stays clear of politics, but she used her platform on Sunday (January 25) to share her thoughts on the fatal shooting<\/a> of intensive care nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis by an ICE agent.<\/p>\n The Morning Show<\/em><\/a> star took to her Instagram Stories<\/a> to share a series of posts about Pretti\u2019s death. In the first, she reposted the statement from Pretti\u2019s parents, initially shared by Senator Bernie Sanders<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are heartbroken but also very angry,\u201d Pretti\u2019s parents wrote. \u201cAlex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAlex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents on Saturday amid protests following the January 7 fatal shooting of Ren\u00e9e Nicole Good, also by federal officers.<\/p>\n Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem<\/a> has since claimed<\/a> Pretti intended to \u201ckill law enforcement\u201d and was \u201cbrandishing\u201d a weapon. However, none of the available video footage shows Pretti holding a weapon. An agent appears to disarm Pretti, and other agents then open fire, shooting him at least ten times.<\/p>\n \u201cPlease get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you,\u201d Pretti\u2019s parents concluded their statement.<\/p>\n Aniston also shared a video of Pretti speaking with his colleagues at the VA hospital as they grieved for a veteran who had passed. \u201cToday we remember that freedom is not free,\u201d Pretti said in the clip. \u201cMay we never forget and always remember our brothers and sisters who have served so that we may enjoy the gift of freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n In later slides, Aniston shared posts urging people to contact their local leaders to make their voices heard about the shooting.<\/p>\n Last year, the Friends<\/em><\/a> alum encouraged people to use their voices to air their displeasure about ABC temporarily suspending Jimmy Kimmel.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cUnthinkable things are happening,\u201d she told Elle<\/em><\/a> magazine at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s very dangerous and very unfortunate. But at the end of the day, we\u2019re the viewers. We subscribe to these networks and streaming services, so it really comes down to the people and their voices. All those subscription cancellations spoke volumes.\u201d<\/p>\n She also shared a rare political statement in July 2024 after a 2021 comment by Vice President JD Vance<\/a> referring to \u201cchildless cat ladies\u201d resurfaced online.<\/p>\n \u201cAll I can say is\u2026 Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day (\u2026) I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option.
