Kanye West, apologizes for antisemitic acts in WSJ ad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-element=\"story-body\" data-subscriber-content=\"\">\n<p>Ye, the provocative rapper formerly known as Kanye West, explains <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-02-06\/ye-kanye-west-autism-diagnosis-bipolar-wife\">himself once again <\/a>\u2014 this time in a full-page ad in Monday\u2019s issue of the Wall Street Journal. <\/p>\n<p>The Grammy-winning musician penned a lengthy apology in the advertisement, voicing regrets for his <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2022-10-10\/kanye-west-twitter-instagram-locked-antisemitic-tweets-posts\">social media attacks on Jewish people<\/a> and his public embracing of <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2025-02-11\/ye-kanye-west-swastika-shirt-yeezy-demonetized-shopify\">Nazism<\/a> in recent years. He began his letter detailing injuries from a 2002 car accident, including a frontal-lobe injury he says led to his bipolar type-1 diagnosis. Ye wrote that, in the throes of the disorder, \u201cI gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI lost touch with reality. Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem. I said and did things I deeply regret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cPower\u201d and \u201cI Love Kanye\u201d musician, 48, has long had a history of stirring <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/tv\/showtracker\/la-et-st-kanye-west-donald-trump-anderson-cooper-hurricane-20181012-story.html\">controversy, <\/a>but notably began facing waves of scrutiny for embracing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2022-10-03\/kanye-west-candace-owen-white-lives-matter-shirts\">white supremacy, <\/a><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2022-12-02\/kanye-west-nick-fuentes-alex-jones-antisemitism-hitler\">fawning over Adolf Hitler<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2022-10-10\/kanye-west-twitter-instagram-locked-antisemitic-tweets-posts\">threatening violence <\/a>to Jewish people on social media in late 2022. Though his professional life seemed to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2022-10-25\/ye-kanye-west-companies-dropped-antisemitic-comments\">take blows<\/a>, West continued embracing Nazi symbolism in the following years, in 2025 selling a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2025-02-11\/ye-kanye-west-swastika-shirt-yeezy-demonetized-shopify\">swastika-bearing T-shirt<\/a> and releasing a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-05-09\/ye-claims-streamers-banned-his-new-single-heil-hitler\">single<\/a> titled \u201cHeil Hitler.\u201d West had also allegedly told a former employee, who is Jewish, that he was a \u201cNazi\u201d and compared himself to their leaderAdolf Hitler, according to a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-02-11\/kanye-west-nazi-employee-lawsuit\">lawsuit<\/a> filed last year. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the people I love the most, I treated the worst,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou endured fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to love someone who was at times, unrecognizable. Looking back, I became detached from my true self.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The musician said his disorder led him to moments of \u201cpoor judgment and reckless behavior,\u201d some he said he can\u2019t recall. The rapper said he is \u201ccommitted to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change\u201d and denied that he is \u201ca Nazi or an antisemite.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>West also extended his apologies  to the Black community, which he wrote is the \u201cfoundation of who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>West (he legally <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2021-10-18\/kanye-west-name-change-ye-approved\">changed his name to Ye<\/a> in 2021) wrote that early last year he experienced a \u201cfour-month manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life.\u201d He said there were moments during this episode when \u201cI didn\u2019t want to be here anymore.\u201d West said after \u201chitting rock bottom\u201d he began seeking help, with the encouragement of wife <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/story\/2023-01-13\/kanye-west-marries-bianca-censori-kim-kardashian-divorce\">Bianca Censori<\/a>. He said he also has since found solace in Reddit, where he said users shared their experiences with manic and depressive episodes. <\/p>\n<p>West said he is moving forward with \u201cmuch-needed clarity\u201d reached by a routine of medication, therapy, exercise and \u201cclean living.\u201d He added that he is also focused on \u201cpositive, meaningful art\u201d including music, clothing and other ventures \u201cto help the world.\u201d He said he is not seeking \u201csympathy, or a free pass,\u201d but rather forgiveness and patience \u201cas I find my way home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>West previously opened up about his <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-02-06\/ye-kanye-west-autism-diagnosis-bipolar-wife\">mental state last year,<\/a> telling \u201cThe Download\u201d podcast that he learned \u201cit\u2019s really a case of autism that I have.\u201d At the time, he also told podcast host Justin Laboy that he had stopped taking his bipolar medication since learning it wasn\u2019t the \u201cright diagnosis.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Days after his podcast interview, West fired off several antisemitic tweets that have since been deleted. In other posts, he also called for the release of Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs amid the mogul\u2019s sex trafficking case and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/music\/story\/2025-02-07\/kanye-west-antisemitic-tweets-bianca-censori-dominion-free-puff-diddy\">declared his \u201cdominion\u201d<\/a> over Censori.
