Tiago Melo<\/a>\u2019s sci-fi satirically tinged drama \u201cYellow Cake<\/a>\u201d has debuted its trailer ahead of the world premiere in the Tiger Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Ur\u00e2nio Filmes<\/a> is handling world sales.<\/p>\n

This is Tiago\u2019s second feature film following \u201cAzouge Nazare,\u201d which premiered at IFFR in 2018 and won the Bright Future Award.<\/p>\n

The film stars Rejane Faria<\/a>, Valmir do C\u00f4co<\/a>, Spencer Callahan<\/a> and T\u00e2nia Maria<\/a>, who also appears in Oscar nominated \u201cThe Secret Agent<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is set in the Brazilian city of Picui\u0301, in the Parai\u0301ba backlands. Here a group of scientists is trying to eradicate the deadly Aedes aegypti mosquito \u2014 the vector of dengue fever \u2014 through a secret experiment codenamed Yellow Cake.<\/p>\n

Using uranium extracted from the region, the project aims to sterilize the mosquitoes and contain the spread of the disease. The nuclear physicist Ru\u0301bia Ribeiro (Faria<\/a>) acts as the link between…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
